seems like everyones throwing out opinions and all started with something different. for you im not gonna suggest a single one. but i reckon you either need to pick it yourself or place the names in a hat. probably the first one. :P plus it dont really matter what you learn cos you probs be trying them all out yourself first hand. as for books, dont think you need them. just jump in and have fun. trial and error and persistance and GO :)
dunno what you going on about but c# or c++ are good for learning basic stuff...they are pretty easy to understand and help you get into the state of mine of programming in other languages
as zarakk said its good to have friends do it aswell because you can also find jerks and its fun doing it with real life people. i never got to end game and see no point to just farming for more gear and pvp. i mostly played which was by myself in the questing of the game. someone said that you wont see all the new stuff with only 1 from each race which isnt true. most people dont explore which i feel is pretty fun.
the game i feel was addictive but i did quit easy though.
i would play again if i had 100hrs to spare and the money to afford to waste on it, but it does get kinda lonely when your introverted and none of your real life friends play, and everyone can be a arse sometimes too noobs.
also ye the price for the complete pack of them is around 70 i think

ye seemed to be troll, i was gonna be a pain and say GIVE US the frigging details of what you cant do. its like seeing someone say they have a problem with their net and just say my net is bad can you fix it.
i wonder if there is gonna be a wc4 anytime soon that will fill your needs that the sc2 melee/editor couldn't fill.
tbh i didnt play wc3 ladder or melee, i only play custom maps. i never touched wc3 editor or paid attention to the detail through story or maps that are being released but i preferred the texturing foresty fantasy style of wc3 then the spacey fantasy style of sc.
ps: i suck at melee. hahah
