    I believe in the past I have just given up and NOT duplicated the unit, but merely changed the existing one and all the fields I can find. I've never been 100% satisfied with this because in your vids yours always works and mine does not. It's just so damn annoying! One of these days I just want to sit down and mindlessly click what you click and have it work. What am I doing wrong??

    I have been struggling with this for a LONG time now. Not just THIS specific tutorial. But practically ALL your tutorials. Now, I understand that this is from v1.3.6 of the editor, and that we are now on v1.4.3 or something. But the problem I have run across has been THE EXACT SAME THING. Both for the videos and this text version.

    When duplicating a unit and trying to follow along with the tutorial (text/vid), the Editor will NOT copy the actor properly. For this instance, I am trying to make the Sun Builder and this seems to go "with no issues". I find the Probe in the main files, I right-click and then choose Duplicate. I check ALL the boxes you instruct me to but then I end up with the standard "green man" icon next to the main object in the object explorer. Also, there is absolutely NO Actor at all associated with this duplicated unit.

    If I swap over to the Actors tab, there IS a "Sun Builder" actor. However, it is not associated with the Unit. When I try and muddle around and make the Editor use the actor (instead of "Probe" or "Probe Copy"; usually also may have an "(Unknown)" thrown in next to it), nothing changes. Still the "green man" in the Object Explorer. Going back to the Main Window under Units (to add one into the map), choosing "Player 1" and then "Unit", doing a search for my unit (in this case "sun") brings up the same problem: "Sun Builder" with the annoying "green man" icon next to it and clicking it and then a spot on the map drops a "nothing" into the map. I hear a sound, and a colored [red] box appears on the mini-map. But nothing actually shows up in the view on the main window.

    This is pretty much the most frustrating thing! It's been happening for SO long and has literally put a monkey-wrench into anything I am attempting to learn from you! I do not know where to turn. I have muddled through before and gotten "it to work" by just improvising. But I want to know why it works for you and not for me! Can you help!?!?!?

    also, i have not played any of the WC3 maps, so i have no point of reference. these reviews were made in an attempt to give a broad generalization of what is out there in SC2. not to compare them to anything in another game. if i was comparing these games to other games, such as ones present as a flash internet game, they all get no higher than 3.

    that was a little harsh and not true...

    keep in mind i am not only reviewing them as a game, but also as a file created in an editor with absolutely NO DOCUMENTATION. youtube video tutorials not withstanding. as powerful as this editor may be, there is very little documentation on how to use it, or push it to the limits. and by documentation, i mean something from Blizzard, or even another recognized professional source.

    and most of these maps are unfinished or works in progress. and most of those WC3 maps are a lot older than one year. most authors, like myself, have had no beta experience and may have only had about a year to poke around in the editor. in between playing games, ofcourse... 8) and i have never seen the WC3 editor.

    once again, you are welcome to write your own reviews...

    however, i learned a lot from following some tutorials around here. try this tutorial. why? because it will at least successfully get you some experience with actors and that tricky events+ window...

    there is no defense for anything if you are a type with no roles. even if you ARE a type with roles. as soon as you see that yellow flash, you might as well hit F10.

    chat channels and voice chat ruins the game.

    the most fun, well, any fun at all, that i had was when the game was brand new and people were playing it for fun instead of using OOG work arounds.

    unfortunately, this game is not very exploit proof. and, the entire 8 hours it survived without people resorting to them proves my point.

    this isn't a knockdown of your map. it's just not community proof. sorry. this map, in the current state, is already going the way of the do-do...

    this seems interesting. and, yeah, all the stuff you want to do is possible. just need to find it. sorry i cannot help too much more. it's been a few days since i opened the editor and i tend to only have the knowledge on those days. 8)

    the multi levels of your house IS very possible and probably easier than you think. hiding it on the mini map is also doable. again, just need to find some examples and tweak them for your map. can't think of any off the top of my head, but i have seen it so i know it's possible.

    posted a message on Unit Searching for Region/Point

    I am looking for some help in regards to giving a newly created unit, which will spawn on another unit's death, the ability to search for the closest region/point and then give that unit orders to move towards it.

    Right now I have my units following a strict path towards an ultimate goal. I have a huge baneling that spawns smaller ones when it is killed.

    How do I make those newly created units follow the same pathway as the original unit?

    Is it possible to have the unit search the area for regions/points and then move towards them? I would be happy with the unit back tracking if needed.

    The only other way I can see this being possible is to have the unit move towards the end goal (which is what they do now, but they do not follow the same pathway; they hug the walls) and then during that pathway it will eventually cross another region and get new orders. But, the issue I am running into with this is the region shapes. In order for it to not be overly retarded, I would need the ability to make either angled rectangular shapes (which I cannot figure out how to do), or elliptical shaped regions (same issue).

    Yeah, it's a TD (blech)...

    I suppose it is possible to add the new units into a private unit group and have other units ignore various regions with conditions. This way only the new units would respond to the retarded regions I will need to paint everywhere. But that is what I am trying to prevent: retarded region painting.

    To think that the solution, albeit clunky, would be the ability to paint angled regions.

    Perhaps the solution is a combination of circular regions placed properly AND conditions for unit groups...?
