@ ProzaicMuze... It's sad you hadn't read through my other posts. I looked up to you as a person who takes the time (basing this off of your great tutorials and clever data work). I guess you failed to notice that I AM NOT going in the direction of ecchi anymore, but towards some other picture-esque reward that would be worth trying so hard to beat the map.. aside from those just wanting to complete a challenge.

I actually did read your posts. I've updated my posts to better reflect who they were directed at.

facepalm@ a lot of posts. It is just fun to unlock something on the mini-map if its a defense game or something like that. Even if you can just look it up on the internet, it is fun to get a glimpse of it wave by wave.

I can understand why you don't get how someone would like to play something like that, but as an example there was Tank Defense in SC1, which was really fun and popular. Even if the picture of a pussy you unlocked was totally not worth it lol.

Bigger facepalm at this horrid idea.

@zeldarules28: Go ... But yes, as Duck said the picture was a reward for completing the 'impossible scenario.' I still plan to recreate this type of game, but with a different (not so bannable) picture to play for ...

Why would I care about beating a map for a picture that isn't worth it? You spend hours unlocking a single worthless picture or you can spend 15s, type out exactly what you want in google and find entire videos of it.

@iE4TM4PS: Go If you want to get a map like that (or maybe even better) back to SC2, you can help me by reading this:

Your audience isn't the 18+ crowd (those that can legally view such images) because they already know they have a plethora of options. Your audience is the <18 crowd given that they'd rather play a game that shows an image without it showing up in their browser history. In other words, your map is being made for an audience that isn't legally allowed to look at it.

You, sir, are a terrible person.

Good to hear :) I've been working on making updated versions of all my tutorials as I have time available, so my older tutorials will all get a face-lift in the near future.

If you're still having the problem, attach a copy of your map so I can give it a look. If it is indeed something that changed in an update I'll need to look where the change was made and update the tutorial accordingly :)

posted a message on Need unbiased feedback about a conflict

FYI, this sounds like a pretty dumb conflict.

I'm fairly used to my friends saying offensive things all the time. It's a guy thing. Guys are douchebags and say douchy things. It's our method of communication. (A), who I will call "nagging girlfriend" from now on, sounds like a nit-picker. Your nagging girlfriend is likely trying to pick a fight due to some past issue that you are unaware of.

As for yourself, just ignore your nagging girlfriend. You really shouldn't be taking this personally. If your nagging girlfriend is being a jerk, ignore them and move on. If the issue is still there some days from now you need to cut ties with this person as you obviously aren't going to enjoy time spent with them.

People do stupid things. The best course of action is always to be resilient. Let it go and move on. It shows maturity if you never let a problem stay with you.

posted a message on Dota 2

I've actually seen a few in game screens and I think the art direction looks sexy. Unfortunately I know it's no more than a reskin of DOTA so I'm not that interested in it.

Trailer was definitely kinda "meh" for me too. That seemed more like a teaser trailer you'd put up when first announcing the game.

posted a message on Gathering your feedback on Blizzard Tutorials

I found the tutorials to be confirmations of what we already knew or had hunches about. The first 3 tutorials weren't really for us so we can't say much about them. The Movers tutorial was definitely more advanced, but I had already created a more condensed version of that. While I, personally, might appreciate the clarification for some of the fields (I wasn't entirely sure about some of them), there were few people who understood all of the verbiage being spit out in the Movers tutorial.

If they make more tutorials on advanced subjects it would help to avoid terms that, while technically correct, aren't commonly used. For example, there were a LOT of mathematical terms (Sinusoidal motion of a wave being one) that put people off. Drawing a picture or even "wave motions" would be a better way to explain it while offering up "Sinusoidal" as a supplemental description for the more mathematically inclined user. I've found in my interactions with other modders that most aren't really math folks. They're artsy folks (given the creative aspect of modding) that understand how to use math, but not always what the proper descriptions are. Bottom line: you shouldn't need to reference wiki to understand the tutorial.

Also, I'd definitely prefer if Blizzard avoided making tutorials on how things interact. If the tutorials are strictly technical in that they describe HOW things work, people like me can easily make tutorials explaining how to put the parts together to make cool stuff.

You should get in the habit of editing with all 5 buttons enabled on the right of the center divide. All of my tutorials were made with this setup. All of my tutorials also use three dependencies. Some of my earlier tutorials, don't have the Campaign dependencies, but this doesn't matter because this setup gives you access to everything in the editor and is backwards compatible:

    • Liberty Story (Campaign)
    • Liberty (Campaign)
    • Liberty (Mod)

In that order. Keep in mind that you can always download my test map and look at exactly how my dependencies are setup.

As for duplicating you guessed right. I mean, quite literally, check the top box and the one actor box that has the same name. After you've made these adjustments and tried again let me know if you're still having the same problem and we can start from there :)

Is that a concert put on by a hologram?

I've actually seen several of the songs from the concert and that is indeed early versions of holographic technology. Currently it's just a flat plane with holographic simulation, so it's not quite to the level that you might think (only viewable from front/back).

    Still pretty nifty.
