Mapster Mentoring is a scheme to help newbies get better at map making. There will be a list of mentors that newbies can contact to ask about questions, get tips and generally get help from.
How does this differ from IRC?
IRC is great, but often either people are already in the middle of a discussion, or are too busy working on their own maps to answer complex questions. The forums are also a good place, but tend to bump threads off the first page too quickly. This means that simple questions that could be answered in a few sentences could take a couple of days to be answered. The mentoring scheme is not meant to replace any of these, but to provide a quick way to get answers to small questions that otherwise would go unnoticed.
How do I become a mentor?
To become a mentor, simply post an application in this thread. Almost all applications will be accepted. Here's the format to post:
Quote:
Name:<Insert your name here> Help type:<Say whether you can help with data, triggers, terrain, galaxy, sc2layout files etc> Specialty:<Say what kinds area you specialize in. Such as Dialogs, ability's, actors etc> Maps:<Say what maps you are working on/ have made. Can also be assets and librarys> Contact:<Post how you would like to be contacted. PM, MSN, Skype, Email, Bnet, anything. Post the contact info if you want to be contacted via anything but PM initially> Time Zone<The time zone you are in.>
How do I become a Mentee?
To become a mentee, simply pick the person/ people that best suit your needs and either send them a PM asking for contact info or add them if they already have contact information on their mentor application.

Notes: I really just want to help my fellow mappers. I will be more than happy to help ANYONE with any trigger problem what so ever!
There is a way to specify a human player's difficulty, as I said in my first post. However, you also need a trigger to change the difficulty on map init.
Ah, I think i get it now. Blizzard uses some weird resolution so 100x100 may actually be 70x70 or so. Play around with it until you find a good look to it.
Also iirc, blizzard uses triggers in their campaign maps for difficulty. Eg, If difficulty = brutal, create siege breaker at point X, if hard, create siege tank at point X, else do nothing.
You can do this via attributes. For a single player map, add it to game attributes (Or just make it shown if it's already there but hidden). For multiplayer you can add it for player attributes for voting. Then all you do is create a trigger that (If you used the player attribute) decides what difficulty won in the vote, and then setting difficulty to whatever was decided (Although you could use a variable because difficulty is basically a variable). Then all you do is refer to the difficulty every time you need to :).
Could you upload your map? I'm not entirely sure what you are trying to do and what the problem is :/.
Highscores can only be used as P2P. Basically player X has 50 scores in their bank. Player Y has a different 50 scores in their bank. You then compare the scores and save the top 50 from both banks to the banks. The problem with this is that if someone hacks the bank, they can easily troll your map because whoever they play with will get that score and the names etc. Plus it's quite slow because each player has to play with someone else and then they have to play with someone else etc.
TMA/ Tofu/ Whatever it's called's UI looks really great :). Didn't know dialogs could look that good. I know there won't be much chance, but any is there a chance of having a look at how you did it :)?
Yeah, but a really good programmer could disguise it as some data or something. Perhaps saving it as a file with no extension, then somehow converting it to a .exe and running it.

Even if it can be hacked easily, it's probably useful to have in addition to other security methods.

This is the problem. You need it as an actual sound variable then set it in a trigger I think.
