    Hey everyone,

I haven't been on here in forever. Mainly school has been taking up all of my time and free time has been out socializing. Anyways it's finals time so I have some spare time to post on here.

I finally figured out why my map wouldn't upload to Battle.Net.

    Onto details:

Human Cat - Is random or you can call it. Buying - Both the cats and the mice can buy stuff Killing=Minerals - For the cat. So as to not spam free buildings Saving=Minerals - For the mice. So you can save your buddies and get some reward for risking yourself

Cat Buyables -Jail Guard - sunken style -Dragon - Uber in the sky unit (costs a bunch) -Spy - Like a probe but not a probe -Baby Cat -Upgrades - Speed/damage/other

Mouse Buyables -Car - fast ground transport for mice -Some other armaments -Tech mouse - duh

    Map Overview

I need people to test balancing etc.

    Thanks

posted a message on Cat N Mouse Hills (Beta)

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have pretty much finished up my Cat N Mouse Map. The only thing left is testing. I had a previous topic on the matter but it is smattered with ideas and other things that do not really have to do with the final map. I also got burnt out on making the map so that's why it took so long to jump back on it.

I am currently having issues with the header verifying on Battle.Net so if anyone has any ideas post/pm me.

    Current Specs:

    8 Players - 7 Mice, 1 Cat (Subject to change) 64x64 Map

    About

    • Random Cat or option to call "cat" at the beginning of every round
    • Supports Multiple Mice (Currently - Option to buy mice for $500 a pop can be taken out)
    • Get $ for saving mice.
    • Only save on bring there. No constant respawn issues if cat is camping
    • Cat is quite powerful atm. He may need to be brought down a notch actually
    • Multiple terrain heights - Encourages working together and gives cat more stealth/less stealth in certain areas
    • Mouse Holes and Pathways - You can be safe from cat temporarily but there isn't enough space for too many mice
    • Blink for your chooser - You can blink your chooser to what you want to buy; You don't need to wait for people to move their dts
    • Chooser area blocked - You can't get in or out of the area. Unless you blink in. No unit can do that ;)
    • Tech tree edited - You can look at it in the help menu
    • Units edited - You can view them in the help menu
    • All Text changed - Except for weapons most text is modified to some degree. Generally so you it doesn't say train marine and so forth

So now I just need to balance the game. I need to double check the numbers for health/attack to make sure no unit is kicking too much ass for its dollar value. Please lmk below.

    BETA TESTS Projected: July 31st-Aug3rd

Yeah you can use existing functions and just put them in a reusable block. Pretty much the whole point. I generally add a custom script in there too though.

I haven't updated in a bit. I got some more done on the map. I have been slow on the project because I did get burnt out. Cat is 99% done! except for balancing after testing Details: 1. To play as cat you must type some form of cat in a chat message within 5 seconds of game start or before any other player. In the event no one "calls" cat, one player is randomly selected to be the cat. 2. Buying units. Everything is based in minerals sort of like Cat N Mouse Jungle. Mice = $100 minerals. Buildings and other units can be worth as much as $10 but avg is most likely around $4. Upgrades are available at an evolution chamber within the buying area. You can purchase all three levels of melee weapons and shields there. You can also purchase the two ultralisk specific upgrades. Units available: $100 - Jail Guard - Spawns near the jail essentially acts like a sunken from sc1. Can purchase multiple but unadvisable $150 - Spy - Basically a fake mouse. The observer of the game. Infiltrate/block/ do what you can. Based on changeling ability $200 - Evil Mouse - Zergling, chase mice down, can go through mouse holes, low damage low health but cheap $325 - Snake - Hydra, shoot down planes, take care of small units, block off mice exits, sneak attacks $500 - Baby Cat - slower, lower damage, no ultralisk upgrade benefits, $800 to upgrade to Cat $1000 - Dragon - mutalisk, can attack ground & air units. basically useful for assaulting mice in their supposedly safe bases 3. Cats lose if there are 0 full grown Cats on the field. They win if all the mice (probes) are captured. 4. There is no plan for a second cat slot. However other than the setup triggers (eg calling cat, creating chooser, upgrade center, and cat) it is possible since I did not associate a single player with cat. It's not quite that simple as there is one section that would involve some slight changes but nonetheless highly possible if the game seems to call for two. I may have to come up with rules to allow the second slot to be open or closed. 5.There is no computer cat as of now. Making a decent Cat AI would take more time than the map itself. Using the general ai commands, cats are extremely easy and the only way to make a decent one is to send waves of enemies which I frankly don't want to do. There will be no computer cat in any foreseeable future. I currently only have one bug and that is the model for the baby cat once using the grow up ability (it changes it into a cat) the model for some reason stays the same. Everything else changes. I have no clue why. I would put pics up but its Cat N Mouse and a fairly straightforward map.

posted a message on Detect who is Host?
just for people trying to help out: do you mean the creator of the game or who is currently hosting the game? i thought in sc no one was a true host and it was clients to clients not server to clients when in the actual game Just an fyi: most people in the orig Starcraft just made whoever was Player 1 the host. Ban functions etc went to them.

Yeah I am definitely adding two more ground units (one weak melee and one medium range) and an observer for cat

For mice I am thinking on them. I have changed the terran tech tree to allow reapers and marauders. Both can do some damage but cost a bit and are not good to lose. Only two buyable units at the moment.

    Alpha Test This Week

    PM Me to get in

also check the top post for a more detailed look at the project

posted a message on My lib. Taking Wants/Needs/Suggestions

Basically I am making a Cat N Mouse map. Hopefully to be one of the first that is fully balanced and not based on a CPU cat. Anyways, I have created a few actions that have helped on the map. I also tried to solve a problem on the forums also.

    Instructions:

Give me something you would like or could use... Do not make it crazy complicated (distill it down to the basics - what you really need) and do not make it too specific.

Ex. I would like an action that ..... Make All UnitType Change Property Value To XXX

In essence: I am taking suggestions that are not possible without scripts or that are complicated w/o them. Also SC1 trigger equilvalents

    Existing Versions:

    Current: 0.1a (not uploaded) Adds:

    • Actions
      • Kill All - Kill All (Any Type?) UnitType Owned By Player X

Version 0.1 May 24,2010 - In my sig

    • Conditions
      • Force Has - Force Has X UnitType
      • Field Has - Field Has X UnitType
      • Player Has - Player Has X UnitType
    • Actions
      • Make Player Cam Follow Two Heroes(1)
      • Move Coop Cam to Two Heroes(1)

(1)-Unverified if function works during gameplay although it complies

Put them below. I'll do what I can

quick aside: great job on the site. I did notice to notification too but most everything is organized enough I can find everything I've posted on. ---- Played Starcraft & Broodwar (Most of my Blizzard game time) some WC3 Frozen Throne and obviously the SC2 Beta I plan to play a bunch of SC2 also @sixen I have major jealousy over Ghost. I wish someone had a way to get that demo esp of the multiplayer.

posted a message on Adding an Ability to a unit using Behaviors or can you?
@soulzjd: Yes you can. Simply go to the zergling. Add an ability called sniper shot. Then go to the command card and add a button that executes sniper shot. The only thing I think it takes energy so you need to allow a zergling to have energy

@Hartgarde: nice ideas. definitely had not really thought of adding abilities to units. the lovely editor keeps bugging out though if i change some things and i have to reset half of the unit's i just edited values back. abilities may come into play. i just added a baby cat. faster but turns slower and weaker. also the reward system for the cat. all buildings/units have a field that allows minerals to be awarded to the kill w/o a trigger (thank God). Current breakdown: Current Available items: Dragon $1000 (Low Health but Flying with damage) Spy $150 (Basically in the base look at the mice. may add a cloaking upgrade for say $75) Ground Unit $300-$350 (low health (decent base can take it but player needs to paying attention. basically something that can chase mice through holes etc.) Baby Cat $500 Jail Guard $100 (whatever the sunken replacement is. removed ability to unburrow) Planned Items: Attack Upgrades $50,$75,$100 Shield Upgrades "" Speed Upgrade $100 Ultralisk Shield Upgrade $100 Current Rewards: $1 for any pylon $2 for any small unit (<$50 minerals to make excluding mouse and tech mouse) $3 for any nonwall building $5 for any normal unit ($50-$100 minerals) $6 for any wall building $8 for any tech mouse/command center $10 for any good unit... not sure what yet ($100 - $200 aka dropship, planes) $15 for Nexus $20 for any good unit (>$200 minerals) $100 for mouse (the max amount for a single kill) Thoughts on pricing? This is probably one of the hardest parts is to make the Cat not seem screwed over but not to make him all powerful very quickly Also upgrade baby cat to a regular cat? Maybe like $800 minerals?? Makes it possible but rather costly total of $1300 minerals

@dra6o0n: yeah while jungle is fun, (definitely not the best by any means) it has a game for cats. The chance of winning for a cat if they have not killed a mouse drops dramatically with the time they've been playing. A good player can still finish off a decent mouse player in ~15 minutes but after that the cat is just really toast. Space was somewhat fair although I did not like the size of the map. Winter was my all around favorite map. Very balanced. Good units. Unfortunately jungle and the random cat mouse & toys & 600 other units overshadowed it. ----------------- End of rant I do plan on having a beta test as soon as I have the game around 85% complete. That means probably next week. I'll need to do things like check pricing on units since it is only possible to estimate a good cost. Obviously as much as it would be fun to give the mice a bunch of stuff the cat needs to be able to hold his own. Glad I'm getting some contributions. Maybe I can throw up some pics later. However internet connection is real busy at the moment downloading the starcraft updates (i'm behind a bit)

posted a message on [Trigger] Cat 'N Mouse. Lets rescue some mice.
@anguule: In my map I simply do Quick Def: Custom Action - Kill All Units Player X Custom Condition - Player Commands X Unit Type ----If you want them check my library in my sig Trigger is: --------------------------------------- Event: Any unit dies Condition: Triggering Unit Type == Mouse Triggering Player Commands 0 Mouse Actions: Kill All Units Player Triggering Player Create 1 Marker (my case its a creep tumor) for Triggering Player in Jail ---------- Allows multiple mice in the game ;) Also one trigger for every mouse While we're at it the saving trigger ---------------- Event: Any Unit Enters Jail Condition: Triggering Unit Type == Mouse Not Mice Command 0 Captured Mice (basically don't throw the messages up if nothing happend) Action: Message to Cats - "mice escaped" Message to Mice - "fellow mice saved" Pick Each Player in All Players If Player has 1 captured mouse Then Kill all for picked player (basically eliminates anything created to show in jail - so tech could just be the jail marker) Create 1 Mouse at Save point for Picked Player Select Last Created Unit for Picked Player (so they don't have to scramble to select it) Modify Player Triggering Player Add 5 minerals (give saver five minerals for each saved mouse as a reward) ---------------------------------- Now the cat is out of the bag for two of the hardest Cat N Mouse Triggers (pun intended).
