Releasing it publicly always helps the community, especially on known maps.

Personally I found that you can't really always find a successor except if you get lucky. Most of my maps are open source now and they haven't really been picked up... but probably a lot of new mappers look at them?

No idea, but this goes back to my reason for making things yourself if you can find resources to do so, and it's not back-breaking.

Oh that must have been a mistake on my part... I thought it stops when you let go of the mouse. I'm guessing it wouldn't be too much work to modify my code though... just make it not order the Hero to Stop when the mouse button is lifted, rather, order him to the mouse's world position?

Let us never speak of sc1 on console again! What I meant is that it's pretty rare or undesirable for a complex RTS with lots of depth to be made on console. It just works better with a mouse or touch-screen.

    @Molsterr: Go

Meh, a lot of times I see great interviews and then the actual game just doesn't come out right (atleast when put up against the Blizz/Valve juggernauts)... I'm looking at the Dungeon Siege series as an example I guess. I was happier playing old 2D Diablo 2. But let's be hopeful on this one :)

Community is a big deal to me. I wouldn't make maps or tutorials for just any game... there has to be an audience and a good following... which may or may not come with Genitals.

The good news though is that there's no way this could end up being a shitty console port since strategy games can't be made for consoles. The bad news is that the first Genitals* was 'okay', so that usually means sequel will be worse. But really the worst part is you won't be able to skip the EA logo when you start the game!!

In all seriousness, if this truly is a PC-only game, and they really try hard to make it good, and it's clear it's not just a money-grabbing DRM DLC laden game... then I will buy it just to support the developers that cater to us.

    *Not a typo!

You know I just thought of something,

BEFORE I SAY THIS: I am not saying anything bad about anyones maps or ideas...

I think the problem with the feel of maps on SC2 is we as mappers are trying to make things more complex, Maybe Sc2 just needs simplicity a bit?

Just a thought, Every map out there seems like its more complicated then it needs to be

Sotis the terrain is what ruined it for me, Its like they tried to take all 10 textures in their set and put them and smear them together, And it just doesn't feel right when playing, it looks good in editor though. and it LOOKS good in game, but it FEELs awkward..

    So maybe make simpler maps?

i dunno, The Popularity system is still crap though.

Can't speak about SOTIS, but this is actually a valid point in general that I agree with. I've been part of testing for many maps out there, and for a few I gave explicit recommendation to the mapper to simplify and qualify the gameplay rather than throw in all of advanced and complex features... and most of the time it was ignored or the mapper stopped working lol.

posted a message on Sc2 vs Wc3 Maps: What's wrong in recent maps.

Hmm quite a bit of discussion since I last read/posted here...

I can't speak about WC3 Battle.net right now, and I can't speak about SC2 right now... since I play neither of these at the moment. But ultimately what I can say is I had a lot more fun both as a player and a map-creator in WC3's peak (I would say this is right after TFT came out and a period of a year after that). I prefer fantasy but maybe it was the 'feel' of WC3 too. Comparing DOTA and SOTIS is part of the same issue. WC3 just feels tighter? I can't put my thumb on it.

I am a little bit surprised with some of the posts here by people who are intelligent and that I respect. There are many of us that can produce good quality stuff and have been at the top and still are not content with Battle.net 2.0. I DO like a lot of it as I've said countless times before, but it comes down to popularity acting as a gatekeeper in the same way Apple's App Store does. I think that we can do better...

At the end of the day I think 100% of us agree we need a way to see JUST hosted games (similar to WC3), and that this system needs to be visible, not a tiny button beside popularity.

P.S. and one commonly forgotten issue lately is no lobby names. I personally don't care about this as much right now, but I used to... when making an RPG it was pretty important to me so that people could host "level 10+ only" or whatnot. There's no way game variants could take care of this.

I haven't looked too much into Renee's mod... but either way probably good for people to go through the motions; well the motions of knowing that you can find a lot of things done by Blizzard already... and just tweak and copy.

I did the XML for both reasons you mentioned. It's worth using (especially in this case) because you can't copy+paste actor events.

But you mention that you didn't watch the video which is probably why you have an issue with the text tutorial. I didn't say it here but most of my text tutorials are just content dumps from the video tutorial and lack proper explanation other than "do A, do B". I'll edit my post to say that.

I too prefer reading text tutorials, especially for searching purposes. BUT, making video tutorials is much easier than text tutorials.

The problem is Mozza that Censorship heavily effects us because we are bound by Blizzard's rules when publishing a map, there have been numerous cases where maps have been banned, dare I mention Rodrigo?

I have no doubt that Tofu will be banned simply because they do not allow me to express my art.

I miss Rodrigo's antics. He was like the Herman Cain of the sc2 mapping world.
