So you're an atheist that's afraid of death. You realise that this is why most people subscribe to a religion, right?

So you took a poll did you? That's so presumptuous (then, so is abiogenesis) but I'll give the "benefit of the doubt" that you're a different person from five years ago.

posted a message on Is there any reason to use event macros?

Since you must manually animate each unit's ability and things (unlike Warcraft III), it's nice to have a way to give the same ability to multiple units quickly and cleanly.

Since they're called macros I assume that they "copy and paste" and do not exist at run-time.

Oh cool, although I think Launch Missile effect is out of the question in my case. (I'm using triggers to have the "missile" (unit) orbit another unit like a planet.)

Is it better to use Persistent effects instead of Buff behaviors for simple collision (in terms of the CPU/processor usage)? I'm wondering because of how Buffs allow only a single duration/effect whereas the versatile Persistents support arrays of durations/effects. (Is it even better in terms of disk space/load-time as you no longer need Destroy Persistent effects?)

@Colt556: If you're still stumped I think the Maximum Count field in the Search Area effect's Areas+ is what you're looking for.

Yes! I must have overlooked the Effect's Target: Impact Location field for some reason. It works when I change it from the default Target Unit/Point to Source Point (oddly, without any search filter). Thank you!

posted a message on [Solved] My "Immolation"-style Behavior is hurting my own unit!

This sort of thing should be a cakewalk that I've done plenty of times...or so I thought.

    So I do exactly this:

Create a new map. Create a new Effect (of type Damage) with an area, and with a search filter that excludes Self, Player, Ally. Create a new Behavior (of type Buff) with that Effect as a periodic Effect every second. Give the marine Unit that Behavior. Run the map. Rip in peace marine.

Why are search filters not working in this case? If this is working as intended, what am I missing? It seems like the Effect is totally "neutral" with no player affiliation. I tried fiddling with the Behavior's Player field. I tried using a Validator in the area search (which is just another filter). I tried using Search Area + Damage Effects instead. I tried a few other obscure things.

Any help or insight would be appreciated!

posted a message on The proper way to use War3 Mod (GA) in you map

Is there really no way to use official Blizzard art/data assets without an internet connection? After all this time I still find that absurd & hard to swallow so I look for confirmation one way or the other (in vain).

So using your mod & your method will remove the need for internet connection (even though I just want basic art/data assets & I'm not trying to recreate Warcraft III abilities and all the rest)? I guess that is obvious. It just would be nice to keep things consistent w/ the official dependency, minimize DL size, loading time, etc. Still your work is much appreciated.

EDIT: If I'm understanding, the first two "War3" and "War3 Data" are exact copies of the official mods (and the "Extra" is your personal work to fully recreate Warcraft III)...and when it's time to publish we can substitute them for Blizzard's dependencies. EDIT: Hmm, not quite exact copies, and apparently we are unable to easily "swap" these dependencies...so essentially we choose between requiring internet connection through development, or increasing mod size by 40-70 MB. Oh well, nobody said it would be easy.

Nice terrain though, again this is very cool.

    posted a message on Water

I guess what people tried (& failed) to say is that they don't have a similar issue. Me, (with this mediocre laptop that can't even run Heroes once the minions spawn) I opened a blank 256x256 flat map and started placing water at various zoom levels, and had no glaring issues.

I doubt there is another way to create water than w/ the water tool in the terrain editor.

Don't sweat the sort of technophile who would look down on someone for lack of computer science know-how. (Anyway, isn't that one of the unique advantages/points to using these sorts of editors (in lieu of software engineering)?) Still I expect better from a SC2Mapster mod. Or maybe not so much from Mozared who can be rude sometimes /fart

posted a message on How many Active Mappers?

    Hey Draktok, nice hybrid!

I'm not much of a presence here these days (if ever) but I'm still actively mapping, and at this very moment. Although SC2Mapster is less than comprehensive these days with the new tools & features, it is still a very useful knowledge-base from time to time, a precious relic from days gone by. That is why I'm talking to you now!

The way to make SC/2 great again is how it was always done: With awesome & unique games that would not exist in any other context. Although there is little chance of rekindling exact former greatness, there is always a way to new greatness, which in SC2's case will most likely favor quality over quantity. Here's to a whole new chapter in epic "Blizzard" modding!

posted a message on WTF Is... : Blizzard Arcade ? (TotalBiscuit)

It is interesting how WC3 had this "golden era" but now the bots have completely taken over and now it essentially has the same grievances that people complain about SC2 and then some. It pays to look at things as they are, not as they were in some dead past forever from now.

On the other hand "slow and steady wins it." Is SC2 the tortoise that beats the hare? People seem convinced that SC2's "peak" came and went. Maybe it is yet to come? Blizzard's support for the Arcade is already unprecedented (for them), and now there is a second game that uses the exact SC2 engine. SC2 is shaping up to be some kind of prodigal son for Blizzard.

At the very least, its upcoming spiritual successor, the next "RTS-and-all-in-one thing" is so far off that, for all practical purposes, SC2 and Arcade is irreplaceable, untouchable, nothing quite like it.

My only grievance with SC2 seems to have subsided, that is the terrible, terrible damage from patches... I used to criticize people for not "immortalizing" their work with single player compatibility... so much for that eh! But should be smooth sailing from here.

What manner of "open-mindedness" has he who is unwilling to turn every stone!

One of the perils with science is, it acclimates people to let others make their discoveries for them, and that doesn't work with God.

Not one iota of affirmation will be given to the faithless, lacking all grace and humility, who beseech one another for answers (as the blind leading the blind), or treat God as a wind-up doll, that He should conform to our beck and call, however odious and disrespectful, and void of love. What a farce!

Ask Him POLITELY, with English words if you have to, until you get better and are able with your feelings (not the five senses).

I love potholer54. Science vs Feelings:

The problem is, in the interim of figuring out whether or not there's too much CO2, there has already long been government policy in place assuming there is. Not just that, but it opens the floodgates for crooked policy that has nothing to do with the environment. Such is with the bad joke that is "carbon taxes," whose purpose is nothing more than economic warfare/siege/wealth redistribution:

This is what I'm talking about with "priorities." These destructive policies that are undeniably changing the world are taking a backseat to, and enabled by, what "might possibly" change the world. Although in all fairness, if I were an atheist holding in my heart the ramifications of a meaningless existence, where humanity's destruction could happen at any time "just because," I would be haunted too by any number of calamities.

EDIT: I'm trying to wrap my head around this...but it just seems that everything the atheist mindset stands for invariably aids and abets the New World Order one way or another. Never mind, it makes perfect sense.
