You can continue with the project now that patch 1.2 is out and simplify almost every core feature in your maps

ie. Restart all your work. :'(

posted a message on Recent concerns regarding map-making

I definitely think that between little things like leaving the same maps featured for 7 weeks, and showcasing 4 very sub-par custom maps, it seems a lot of Blizzard's attention is focused elsewhere. I guess the one thing that does give me hope is the fact that perhaps they are taking all this feedback, giving it serious consideration and working on long-term solutions to ship with the Zerg campaign.

The reason I think there may be big changes in store for the Zerg campaign is because they really know they need to ship more than a couple of new units to make people buy the game. So if they ship a new popularity system, chat, clans, etc with the new game. It will warrant people buying it. I know that personally, when I bought Starcraft my friends list was packed with nearly 30 RL friends who bought the game. Nowadays I'm not surprised if only 2 or so have logged on in a week. Blizzard has to be seeing these numbers and I hope they realize that without a thriving custom map community no one will pay that kind of money for 30 more missions. Especially since many people haven't even finished the Terran campaign.

The problem is that without something soon, a lot of talented mapmakers are going to give up and leave for different games.

This is such depressing news. Was looking forward to this, not to mention the time and effort you put in. jfc. It's not like 3mb of triggers even takes that much space, and if it runs well whats the problem with having more.

Is it possible to get around this limit using Libraries from a mod or something? 25mbs of triggers is pretty crazy, how come you require so many? Additionally, if there is a legitimate reason for having that many triggers, you may want to start a thread petitioning blizzard for a higher limit. If they intend to have a map marketplace one day, they will have to raise the limit. No one will pay for maps that don't push the limits in what they do.

It's probably a good idea you've decided to work on a new project. I just hope that xpNexus doesn't mean it's some sort of Nexus War...

Yeah, not a huge demand for Sc1 campaigns anymore. Sequel would probably generate more interest as it's actually for SC2.

Good call. I'd pick it up again when Blizzard decides to wake up. Just focus on other maps in the meantime. If you finish them and Blizzard still hasn't fixed the popularity system. Well... it's Blizzard, try to restrain your shock. :(

posted a message on Nexus Trolls: The Anti-Popularity System League

I actually don't mind people's constant complaining about the popularity system. I'd rather constant complaining than complacency. Most people assume that since so many people have complained, a solution is in the fix. These people must be new to Blizzard, because this is not the case. Only through continual complaints do they do anything. I don't really support this idea though, because the likelihood of blizzard noticing is 0%.

posted a message on What is the best way to do this?

I want a trigger that does something depending on where a variable lies in a number sequence. Now if it was just comparing to a single number I would use a Switch trigger, but because I want to compare it with 2 integers.. I'm not sure what to do without creating like 50 If-then-else statements which I'd really rather not do.

Example of what I have now:
    If 20 > x > 25
    then do y
    else
    if 26 > x > 30
    then do z
    else
    etc
    etc

Problem is I need to compare it 65 times. Is there some way to list all the conditions > actions in a reasonably ordered list and just feed the variable in once if that makes sense?

posted a message on Random is the only way to play ?

Roughly 9% of people play random. Personally I've never played random. I found that jumping from one race to the next wasn't as efficient as simply trying 20 games as terran, 20 as protoss, 20 as zerg for example. I found that because I was always the same race I could get to the point where I was comfortable with each and then decide which I liked.

In the end I found that I enjoyed Terran unit diversity. The fact that you can go TLO-style and win with any combination of units is really cool, just look at TvT mirrors. I really dislike Protoss mostly because it seems for them that there are lots of things they can do, but most relies heavy on the same units like stalkers and immortals no matter what you are fighting. I dislike Zerg because I really do not like their early tiers although I haven't played with range enhanced roaches so maybe they've gotten better. The Zerg though do have some very powerful mechanics in their abilities to expand and quickly switch strats.

Overall, though, I would never play random. I once thought that playing another race really allows for one to exploit their weaknesses, but in truth, simply playing against the race until you have some very strong strategies and also enough knowledge to counter all their strategies is enough. I don't need to have played a 5min insert x unit rush to be cautious of it. Also, a very early scout negates even a 6 pool rush from a random player so you're never really caught unprepared.

It's a shame Blizzard didn't warn you it was featured in another region, you coulda translated it beforehand. I think by now everyone has already tried it and realized they can't figure it out, so they never check it again. :(

Even with the English description, I didn't realize it was finally translated until I read this post.

posted a message on Library Requests

What about a library that takes values meant for the bank and runs a simple encryption on them? Seems like it would be pretty useful as it would stop a majority of players from screwing around with banks.

Obviously since it would be a commonly used one (plug and play) it wouldn't stop any serious attempt, but technically nothing can stop a serious enough attempt to hack your bank so just a nice simple encryption. :)
