Firstly, make an actor. Make a duplicate of the zergling actor and when prompted, check the model box. Once that's done, go to the unit editor and create a new unit. In the box asking which base stats to use (the bottommost drop down menu), select zergling.
Go back to your zergling copy actor and at the top there should be a field named Token. Click that, and assign the zergling copy actor to your zergling copy unit.
Repeat it for the burrowed zergling and create a new burrow spell for your new unit.
Uploaded it and placed a link underneath the video above. If you need any further assistance I'll try and be of help. I will say that my solution is not perfect and I had some other ideas in mind, but this definitely works fine and I'm sure people more talented than me can refine it.
Enjoy!
Ps I know the map has a rather large amount of crude triggers, but this was the first map I ever made and it's purpose was mostly to learn the editor. Please don't pick on it :(
The things you should be interested in are the trigger "Attack Turret" and the data changes I made to the Siege Tank's turret and weapon.
You're going to kick yourselves when you realise how easily this is done. I'll make a demo later today if I have time, and upload the map soon after. Watch this space!
Animations are model specific. What unit are you trying to morph?
As for your last point, you can replace a unit with another unit directly (same position, facing, health, shields etc) and change a unit's owner with trigger actions. You shouldn't need to be moving units around.
its pretty obvious that from all the other sites sc2mapster is the cream of the crop atm.
That's quite a humorous opinion considering most of the SC2Mapster community posts on other mapping sides, as well as a good chunk of the guides (even some front page articles) link to other mapping sites.
Competition is never a bad thing for the consumer.
Have the unit have zero weapons by default, assign a weapon at character creation and then remove that weapon via variable assignment when it reaches level two?

I could be missing something, but there was a button in the pre-patch editor that allowed the same layout.

I have no experience with this, but there's a data entry called "(None) - Arc" in effects. Try messing with that?

Now I've not tested this myself, but when you show/hide dialog, there is an option to only show it to specific players/player groups.

Here is a demo anyway. Is this what you mean by rotating turrets?

Why would using strings not work?

Yeah. You can remove weapons via triggers.
