The dirty look comes from the sort of grainy texturing. There is a lot surface detail that appears like rock or stone in some manner with the way it plays on the light. Creating a smoother surface via normals/specular map can smooth it out and make it more like the existing units. I wouldn't say it looks bad, just very different.
that i'm not sure, i can't test it for a few reasons, first, i have starter edition which has 'test map' button disabled. second, i don't really know how to import a model and make a working unit outta it. third, my computer is crashing and needs a system wipe.
what do you think makes it dirty? because i can't really ask my texturer to smoothen out everything, he textured the dragoon somewhere in between war3 and sc2 style, because that's how he knows things..
i just got a PM from Delphinium, that he's having computer issues, so.. he sent me max files, which i can't do anything with.. would someone of you be able to re-tweak them for me? and maybe even try fixing that 'dirty look' that Ghostnova is mentioning
I might not reply straight away, because my computer is malfunctioning as well and needs a system wipe
Looks great. Textures need more work though. I'd drop the dirty look and add a spec map to make it shine nice. I like the model itself a lot I can't wait to see more.
beggars can't be choosers, mate, it stays as it is, like other people made it
edit: and where do you see dirty look anyway? O.o this is a collaboration of me and a lot of individuals, i cannot change things on the whim, nor do i want to..
Looks very flat (even WC3 looked better)? You might want a view with normal map enabled. Or at least post your high-poly version.
I am interested to see how it compares with the LotV version of the Dragoon. You went through a lot of effort to re-create the avatar and everything.
..the dragoon? I didn't really do a too high-poly version, i just made it from scratch (except editing sc2 zealot portrait)
I have this from Delphinium, but that's about all so far.. nothing yet on the portrait
Like I said, "Just to be clear..." so be clear next time!
On topic, it looks pretty neat, it would look a lot better if you used the SC2 Editor, so it uses the normal and specular maps, maybe even the envio maps, these maps were never suppored before and are not used in the War3Model Editor you are using.
It would make your model look even greater !

I wish you guys developed some standalone model viewer that would allow me to merely add all the textures and TC to an obj and then export it as at least rudimentary sc2 model.. I see everything comes down to that i must pirate the darn 3ds max, and that makes me feel.. uneasy, reluctant.. grumpy.. old
Easy just trying to understand your process but if dont like questions just make it clear and nobody will ask or bump your tread. Simple just make as a NON COMMENT tread or NO FEEDBACK NEEDED.
i think there is a difference between feedback and everyone asking ' why the hell are you doing this??' on my every war3-based preview picture.. i think the later is rude..
now.. do you wish give me feedback? which also can include screenshot angle suggestions.. but i'd to try tweaking the mesh
Just to be clear here, you are trying to get the models into WC3 editor ? WHY ???
T.
no, it's just easier for me to temporary set them like that for show.. i don't want to explain myself anymore.. and will start to report everyone who whines at me like that.. clear?
so.. this is the new WIP, i added 3 of those neutron flare emitter thingies that old Corsairs had, do you guys have an idea what else to add? because i didn't do much else than that, and shorthening the aircraft's tail.. and i want it to feel lill more nerazim-ish :3
edit: and i converted to war3 format because blender doesn't support transparency or TC
lookin' very interesting :) but i kinda feel the next version of (or different unit) could use some sort of armor as well, and since they're fantasy desert culture, the armor could really depend on which kind of creatures you plan to have them live with :) as for myself, i kinda imagine something like those 'morag tong' guys (from elder scrolls verse, or mainly dragonborn skyrim dlc) that use a lot of chitin parts, from some crazy large arthropods :b
