    EDIT: this overpowering ability should be balanced out with a required research, or a high energy cost. another ability could be a mutli snipe that hits up to 5 targets with a snipe power that does about a third of the damage of a normal snipe, but cant be used quite as often

    lastly, the basic weapon should be a rifle of some sort... not a pistol.

    SECOND EDIT: HOLY SHIT I GOT IT!!!! what if the sniper rifle fired a homing projectile?

    Yeah, I suppose what we'll do is have a brand new Protoss unit, which is also what I envisioned to begin with as well. We can either make Gestalt Zero the Hero unit (which would be cool because we'd be helping people who want to make campaigns, have lore for him, and have a different model for him than the normal unit) or we can make a new Sniper hero unit for Protoss.

    Well, it'd be Khalai if we go with the Gestalt Zero idea. Maybe we just make Gestalt Zero the hero type unit? Then he'd have a different model and everything as well, making it all the more cooler, :D. So yeah, I think that's what we'll do here... And male protoss! Also, that concept looks sick Maity, :D.

    Possibly, yeah! Do we want to do a hybrid protoss/terran unit though? Or a pure Protoss unit? Though, I suppose a hybrid would be cool, especially since this guy was a Ghost, :)... I like it! Though, this would be the basis of the unit, I was aiming to create an actual unit type, not just a hero unit. However, we can use this guy as the Hero for this unit type.

    For those of you wondering, here is information on Gestalt Zero. It says he uses a pistol (in his left hand) and a psionic blade (on his right)... So a combination of a Zealot with a Ghost, yeye, :D. This would also mean we'd be using Infantry Weapons and Ground Weapons.

    So for spells, we now have his paralyze dart pistol and small-remote detonated bombs. We also have an upgrade, Muadun's templar-grade nerve cords.

    So yeah! We should have three units in the Protis Mod then, the Protoss Sniper unit, the Sniper Academy, and then Gestalt Zero, the Protoss Sniper Hero.

    What to do?

    The recent 1.4 patch brought about a bunch of balance changes, as well as a Situation Report to explain some of the ideas behind the changes that were made. For some reason, the infamous Protis Sniper meme that has been on the Bnet Forums popped back into my head (seems like it always does when balance changes are discussed, :X), and I thought that it'd be awesome for us, as a community, to make a playable unit out of him. That being said, as a community, come up with a Protoss Ghost unit and an accompanying Protoss Ghost Academy (name still up in the air!). Yes, we need to come up with everything for both the unit and the building, as I want this to be a full blown custom unit. Once everything is complete, someone (myself?) will put it all together and put the unit/building into a Mod to be used as a Dependency for anyone who wants to use it!

    We need all of these for 3 units, the Protoss Ghost, the Protoss Ghost Academy, and the Gestalt Zero hero.

    • Concept Art (for the lulz?)
    • Lore (for more lulz!)
    • Model
    • Animations
    • 3D Portrait
    • Icon
    • 2D Wireframe
    • Weapon (Pistol on left arm and psionic blade on right)
    • Spells/Abilities (cloak, paralyze dart, small-remote detonated bombs, and one more spell/abil)
    • Upgrades (Protoss Shields/Armor/Ground and Terran Infantry Weps)
    • Research (Muadun's Nerve Cords)
    • Anything else I may have missed

    And some number crunching...

    • Move speed
    • Damage
    • Health/Shield/Energy
    • Cost (both unit and building)
    • Where the building shows up in the tech tree

    (Note for myself so I don't forget, when making the Mod we need to make sure we not only add the building and the unit, but make the unit buildable from a structure [the gateway?] and add the building to the probe tech tree).

    I don't think your account would get banned, there have been other incidents where maps have been banned or suspended pending modifications. But I think you should know in advance that yes, your map will be reported and banned.

    posted a message on Gathering your feedback on Blizzard Tutorials

    Hey everyone; for those of you who can remember, I gathered some feedback from the community not too long ago on the Editor as well as the Popularity System. Now that we've moved along quite a bit and Blizzard has began pumping out some of their own tutorials, I'm curious to think what the rest of the community feels about them. Thus far, they have produced three:

    I believe these tutorials were great, though 3/4 of them were pretty beginner-level, which isn't exactly a bad thing, they're just aimed at a different audience. What I want to know is, is there anything Blizzard could have done different in their previous tutorials? Did you think Blizzard did a good job with them, or do you feel there was something missing? In addition, from here on out, what kind of tutorials would you like to see? Is there anything specific that maybe you aren't sure how to achieve within your map project, or perhaps you've noticed a lot of the rest of the community struggling with? I want to make this our opportunity to help Blizzard help us in succeeding with our own projects.

    Disclaimer: I do not work for Blizzard, I run SC2Mapster. I am just gathering data to send in to Blizzard on my own accord. You shouldn't look at this as Blizzard officially collecting feedback, but do know that it will be read by the proper people.

    The problem here is that often it isn't even, though. I know for a fact that there are melee maps currently used in major tournaments that are not classified as melee maps by the editor. I can't quite recall the exact example I'm talking about, but some people add one or two triggers purely to create visuals, such as hiding and showing rain and thunder at random intervals.

    Well, whatever. Use common sense, if the map is used in a major tournament, of course it's considered melee.

    Well, I mean, if Rodrigo (iCJug) and Dogmai (Phantom or w/e) want to join in on Melee discussion, they're free to, it's an open forum. The point of this development forum is to help mappers with their Melee projects. As of current, the Melee mapping community is in shambles, I want to attempt to bring them out of the rocks they're hiding under and join us over here, where the grass is greener.
