Blizzard Fan since Starcraft. The Single Player story is AMAZING IMO, I can't wait for the Expansions. In Warcraft 3 I only enjoy the Custom Maps scene (& Blizzards...
Well we haven't put in the options yet so things could change, of course (I've been away from a computer for the last few days, thus the terrible iPad spelling for the last few posts). We'll probably allow you to set text speed, turn camera motion on/off, and disable PvP/trade invites (if you don't want to deal with other players or your being spammed with PvP/trade requests). If we added some kind of "newbie popup tips" system, it would be toggleable. I'm sure there will be some more stuff that comes up as time goes on, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head.
As of now there isn't any kind of berry-growing system. We may put the berry items in the game and not have a growing system for them, I'm not entirely sure yet. I agree with you that the whole planting and waiting cycle is boring. And besides, it's extra bank space we would have to waste as well as more work for me when there's plenty of more urgent things to take care of. Who knows though, if enough people want it, we might add it post-release.
What will be the main antagonist-team rocket-of starmon?
As of now, there's no story in the game (that's going to change, of course, we just haven't gotten around to it yet). The "missions" of the game will revolve around the 10 "milestone trailers" (our versions of Gym Leaders). Something needs to be done before each one can be fought. The first mission or two will likely be simple tasks that require a few battles, but as you progress through the game, we'll probably get some kind of "Team Evil" involved in the plot. We also plan on implementing a rival at some point, so he may become involved in the events of the story. But right now, the storyline isn't something we've been worrying about.
Can I test this out when it's ready?!? I am a HUGE Pokemon freak and, by the looks of it, gonna be a HUGER starmon freak!!!!
Of course ^.^ We currently have a long way to go before an official release. That said, once we have enough content in the game, we will likely do some closed alpha testing (where we lock the map so that only approved testers can play it). We'll probably do some testing signups when that happens and set up some forms for feedback/bug reports. After we have a large portion of the content finished (and the game is more or less stable and bug-free) we'll open up the game for a public beta. But once we're ready to do any testing, we'll definitely let you guys know here.
I watched a bit of the vid you linked and a close up of the action would be cool. Can you not copy the vid by looking at the front of the starmon? I prefer more of the view from the handheld games where you're behind your starmon, you can see the enemy starmon, and it looks like you launched the attack :P. Having rotating cameras is a bit disorienting and may give me a headache. If you must move the camera please do it slowly.
I may as well mention this now- I just changed the moving camera system to be toggleable on a per-player basis. The options dialog isn't in or anything, but the debug command for it works. So you definitely won't have to put up with the camera if you don't want it ^.^
Scorch essence. All moves that u use's power are doubled if any active or inactive Pokemon is burned. If this Pokemon is this one, it deals normal damage to enemys and burn damage is negated.
Venomous essence. Same thing but with poison, and if it's this Pokemon, poison damage is negated.
Electricity essence. Same thing but with Paralysis, and if it's this Pokemon, it has normal speed and can move no matter what.
Stellar power. If the opponents Pokemon is a higher level than this one, one random stat is maxed.
Unbelievable skill. All moves used by this Pokemon automatically hit their target.
Full spread. All status moves used by this Pokemon hit ALL of the opponents Pokemon instead of just the active one like a poisoning move like toxic would hit their bench as well as their active.
Terraforming (dragon) this might be overstepping it a little but this move randomly selects a weather condition, (besides sunny) changes to it, and deals damage as follows: sandstorm- similar effect to fire spin, 20% to make the opposing starmon flinch. Rain-target is hit by a force similar to brine. Thunder-target is essentially hit by shock wave. 40% to paralyze. Hail-ice beam. 25% chance to freeze. Mist- curse(ghost version) swapping negates the effect.
Phase(psychic) user has maxed evassiness(10 double teams)but minimized defense(10 leers).
Doppelganger (dark) similar to substitute, except no life is sacrificed and it can only be used once until you have to refill energy. Does not wear off.
Forecast(flying) Power 70 accuracy 95 60% to burn if its sunny, freeze if its hailing, use sand tomb if its sandstorm, and paralyze if its raining.
Clean slate(normal) every non-koed starmon is healed, energy is restored, and bolth teams swap out. Does not effect koed starmon and effects bolth team's starmon. Can be used as a hidden move outside of battle to heal all starmon in your team by 50% of their remaining life.(in other words, if ur starmon has 50 life left, it will be healed by 25 life. You can't fully heal ur starmon out of battle.)
Speaking of options can we have a huge variety of UI options? Pokemon let's you change the background where text is displayed. I would like more of that and maybe changing the colour of the text or main menu background too.
That's a planned feature, but it's not in yet. I still need to create the rest of the dialogs, and maity has to create the artwork for them. Once all of those are done, we do plan on putting in alternate versions of the dialog art, and then allowing players to pick a UI "theme". But it's not exactly urgent ^.^
Also, I finally figured out a way to handle nicknames. Strings are not compatible with the banking system we're using, but I found a way we can convert strings into sets of integers and save them that way. It's complicated but I managed to make it work, so you'll be able to assign your starmon nicknames if you want :P I'll be naming my charraptor "Minizelda" :P
I did have a question for you guys on how to handle trading starmon with nicknames. I don't recall how the games handled it, but we can do it our own way if we want. So what do you guys think would be the best way to handle this:
Traded starmon keep the nickname their original owners gave them and you can't change it
Traded starmon revert to their standard name when you receive them, but you can nickname if you want (or maybe you can't nickname them right there but you can take them to a "nickname changer" NPC elsewhere)
Traded starmon revert to their standard name when you receive them, and you can't nickname them
I could also put a "nickname changer" NPC in if people wanted it, but I don't know if its a good idea or not. So I figured I'd get your opinions on it :)
Edit: This isn't worthy of it's own post, but I might as well put it somewhere ;) Presenting the very first nicknamed starmon:
The Games used option A but I'd prefer option B, or C as 2nd choice.
A.) Traded starmon keep the nickname their original owners gave them and you can't change it
B.) Traded starmon revert to their standard name when you receive them, but you can nickname if you want (or maybe you can't nickname them right there but you can take them to a "nickname changer" NPC elsewhere)
C.) Traded starmon revert to their standard name when you receive them, and you can't nickname them.
Option A I liked Least I prefer to use the name I like or the Original name.

GIV ME MOAR VIDEOZ!!! IM TOTALLY HOOKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, we haven't actually released any videos publicly yet :P Believe me when I say we really want to get a video out. We originally wanted to make a video several months back but decided we'd rather wait until a more polished & stable version of the map was ready. Well, now we have a more polished & stable version of the map (at least in certain areas). The problem is that neither myself or the Almaity owns a computer with sufficient specs to record anything nice, and that makes things a lot harder (especially since we would want to play & commentate it ourselves). We're also lacking in the video software department, and movie maker isn't exactly what I would call "Not Garbage".
But like I said, we'd totally love to get a video out sometime soon; we understand that screenshots just aren't the same. If you guys are willing to deal with not-so-great recording quality we might be able to get something together. We shall see :P

Why not have the best of all worlds? Add in the starmon info the name of the starmon from the original trainer (as a tribute) but allow us to change the names anyway. The name that's stored in the info should be the name just before it's traded for the first time.
Unfortunately, there isn't really enough room to store 2 names at once. That said, traded Starmon are marked internally as traded, and you get the associated benefits. Get ready for a nerdy wall of explanation text:
The "default" name isn't actually stored, it's just an ID number that corresponds to a type of starmon. So it's only a 2 or 3 digit integer that needs to be stored. The nickname stat, on the other hand, consists of 3 separate integers, each of which is capped out at 129,000,000 (so in other words, I had to add 387,000,000 to the max value of the encryption). This increases the encrypted string's length substantially. Loading the nickname takes longer than all the other stats put together (I even had to put in some wait points in the load script to prevent the map from crashing). So although we have more than enough file space (thanks to a recent patch) to store information, the load times for starmon can only get so high before they won't work anymore, and we're close to that point. Luckily though, other bits of information that aren't stats for starmon can be loaded separately, so we won't face limitations on how many quests or things like that we can add.
I think we'll go with option B then ;)

Good question, I suppose I didn't explain that bit :P We're not actually worried about security on nicknames here- the only trouble that could cause would be offensive nicknames. But "pokemon data" is stored in "chunks" inside banks, and they have to be super organized in order to work. So when you want to access the life number of pokemon #54 from your storage box, the system proceeds to the correct line of the bank, then moves to the correct "set" of data inside the line, then to the correct piece of the encrypted data inside. Putting the nickname data somewhere else would require a new banking system just to keep track of them. And then there's the issue of space- encryption actually has a second benefit to security, which would be some serious compression. Sets of data use a ton of file space because of all the text they use. Thanks to encryption, we were able to store 80 starmon's sets of data (2,400 values) for starmon in less than 8 Kb, which was the original limit.
I'm hoping to release screenshots more regularly so you guys can see what we're working on.... For now, it looks like trouble is brewing in the first "real" quest :P
I think if your banking system is unable to store nicknames you shouldn't bother having nicknames for starmon. If you have a way to store nicknames then might as well go for option b, shouldn't be a problem to implement.

New move ideas...
Scorched earth(fire) power 70 accuracy 100 100% chance for burn
Head hunt(dark) in 3 turns the opponents Pokemon is koed. Your pokemon's defense is halved. Your Pokemon swaps out.
Plasma array(fire) power 100 accuracy 50 burns, poisons, paralyses, AND confuses target 100% chance (this would only be used by a main legendary)
Time's up( normal ) negates all damage, weather and status conditions, and stat changes and fully heals and swaps out bolth Pokemon
Cut down(steel) Attacks using this move every turn until one Pokemon dies power 60 accuracy 100 35% chance of lowering defense
Brutal strike (electric) power 50x5 paralyses both Pokemon and burns the opponents
Berzerker's stand(fighting) power 120 accuracy 70 attacks until this move misses, giving +1 of a random stat every time it hits
