Yeah, especially because the attributes increase damage as well. I could do that, but I would basically only hiding the attributes and bloat descriptions. Does not sound that good, I think I will keep the attributes for now (and maybe replace the names, if someone happens to have a really nice suggestion)
Wow. I checked out a few video clips, and I'm pretty impressed. I was particularly impressed with the Roach's Impale ability. I'll download this and test it soon. Keep it up!

I am hoping to get into beta stage soon, but I want to at least have some kind of balance progression ;) (right now most units still have their default hp and damage etc regardless of being tier 1 or 3, I am working on that right now, but the sheer amount of units and values to change makes this quite a lot work)

My hard drive decided to commit suicide, and I lost the most recent version of the map. Gladly one of my team members still has a map, which is only a couple of weeks old, so not that much work is lost. But still, quite a setback for the upcoming beta phase; probably not before the new year now (I won't have that much time in the next few weeks)

I hope I will be able to create a balanced and fun to play experience; however this is always a huge challenge and will most likely not be perfect for the first release. WC3 dota was horribly imbalanced for ages and needed constant maintenance to achieve some sort of balance and still, many people keep arguing.
SC2 Dota, if properly maintained, will improve over time and provide a better gaming experience after some time has passed, and so will HLW (hopefully ;) )
My release will be by no means perfect, most likely. That would be a shame, wouldn't it? Nothing to improve anymore, I could just quit mapping in this case :p

Well, I am pretty sure that I did hardly touch the data editor's surface. Every day I work with it I learn new, awesome things the data editor can do. I think I understand and use about 10% of it's potential; I just happen to be able to use it in a way, which produces nice results ;)
For the dialog I took a paper and drew a basic layout I wanted to achieve. Then I started looking into the dialog triggers to see, if my desired layout was even possible. When I saw, it was not possible the way I wanted it (I wanted to include a model preview without obstructing the player cam), I improvised and added the transmission portrait of the unit instead.
Making the general dialog design was a real pain in the ass, I used tons and tons of images and tweaked them together and the only way to try the result, was testing the map. The Dialog Designer map could have saved me tons of work, but I discovered it, after I was almost finished with the dialogs :D.
Again, I hope the final result is fun to play and can live up to everyone's expectations.

That would be quite harsh but i know that this type of game will be alot less imbalanced than Dota.
Btw me and my mate always played Hero line wars....while others played it at least, the WC3 died out and now there are only Americans that played Dota on WC3 -_-.
I hope after you make some progress and release an updated alpha or beta version you will start working on more heroes, because i remember in the WC3 version there was like 20 lol :)
I managed to recover all the data lost in my harddrive incident mentioned before; however I did not have that much motivation lately, so I added only a few new things. Also patch 1.2 broke quite some things, I did not restore everything until now.
I added some basic items and have some ideas for other ones, also I play around with some new hero and spell ideas.
Still, some essential (and very boring) work has to be done before release, especially the balance between the different races and also between units and heroes in general.
Big fan of HLW RoC (still play it sometimes). Would love to see this!
(Just for giggles...as a side project...remake HLW RoC so people can see how awesome it was? There's no feeling in the world like fighting 200-500 things with 5m+ income as a single hero...in WC3. You should play CHLW, I've had like, thousands of creeps sent on that at once...so many that theey blocked themselves and you could almost lag out just from looking at it. Anyway, I digress.)
I think HLW RoC had awesome terrain, granted it wasn't like, "I'll play this just because the terrain is awesome", but then again, I doubt there's a map like that. It worked well, it just fit. Not bad, not that it wasn't good, it was nice. Don't be insulting it yourself, it really was good.
Anyway, the best I could map in was the SC1 engine, and it'd take me a while too...but I'd love to play this/give feedback. I'm not going to say it's an awesome map before I've even played it, but I have a feeling it'll be a pwn map.
PS: I read the majority of the first post's text, skipping a few bits because I know how HLW works! lol. (Thought it was 'creeps' and not 'mercenaries', I guess same thing different name depending on who you ask.) I feel like I'm rambling again...and again...
Edit: Realized most HLW concepts and beauty wouldn't really fit into SC2, hoping I can get proven wrong. Also, I just gotta throw this out there. AR is all fun and games, until you get a hero you hate/suck at/really doesn't suit you. (Unfortunately in HLWRoC, happened to me like...all the time...) Any chance of modes like no strength, all strength, all ranged, no ranged, etc? (Thought for instead of str/agi/int: power/speed/will or maybe wit. Power: obvious; Speed: should be fairly obvious as well; Will/Wits: Intelligence is all about the strength/brilliance of your mind, aren't these just 2 more ways of saying it?)
