I'm here to announce the release of Archive Destroyers a classic remake of the star craft 1 game Nexus Destroyers. I changed the name so people don't get it confused with nexus wars. I also know that there have already been maps like this, but this map is mine.
How to Play:
You start out with civilians when can be moved to nearby beacons and spent resulting in a creation of an army in the arena of choice. These armies will mash up against other armies where micro is the key to victory. Upon suicide or death you are penalized 8-16 seconds before your civilians re-spawn and it happens all over again. As you progress you will level up giving you a larger army size and unlocking upgrades, abilities, and stronger units. The goal of the game is to destroy your opponent's archive without losing your own.
Goals I focused on when making this game:
- Use SC2 rank mechanics to make a face pace combat experience similar to rank play
- Balanced game play, and balance for uneven teams.
- Simple, to figure out with intuitive design that requires little to no additional learning.
- Fast pace
- Dynamic game play
- A tool help to improve micro and army composition in rank games.
- Map designs based on existing rank maps.
Notes:
-I find that 1 vs 1 is not very good for this map it turns into a frustrating counter suicide counter game.
-Diamond and Masters will do much better than bronze players, and like the game more.
-The game wants to balance teams because larger armies means more points in play for the weaker team to pick up, and larger armies are harder to micro like in the early game
- 2v1 is harder since the single player has to micro larger armies against 2 smaller armies but its not significantly unfair.
- players that leave in the middle of the game get their army split between the other players victory is still very much possible.
I have received only positive reviews (except that the makeshift combat group and associates have come over to troll me)
Here is a video of course, I am stuck with windows movie maker and there isn't must to explain for my game so about half way in its repetitive.
Edit:
Rank System(coming soon):
I'm doing a rank system to rank players based on there performance. the system will award a bonus for fighting against stronger or weaker players and doing well, it will need fine tuning but here is the basic concept.
20% +/- (5*opponet rank%) opponent rank more killing than dying will get you a diamond rank
10% +/- (5*opponet rank%) plat
0% +/- (5*opponet rank%) Gold
-10% +/- (5*opponet rank%) Gold
-20% +/- (5*opponet rank%) bronze
