For me The Sc2 Editor is perfect because i do not want to do too much.
I like to Tinker with things, add a few things and alter others so to me a full Development Kit is a little overkill.
As well i really do not that the ability to do everything my self and have no one to work on it with.
The editor allows me to be creative as i like with out the need for a team of folks i do not have.
As well i have experience with UDK and XNA and though they are true development kits i just do not need that power.
The editor is fine for me and though i am happy to see creators moving onto things to better Kits i am also saddened to see the community shrink.
Any way Thanks to any one who read this far. if you like add your opinion.
It's not unusual for some people to get frustrated or to realize that the SC2 is just not what they wanted. Some people leave because they got bored, other left because they expected to mage fully-fleshed-first person shooters, others wanted more control for custom content, others were overwhelmed by the the complexity of the editor, and for some people the editor isn't complex enough. Others had great ideas and plans but felt that they were unable to make them become a playable reality. Oh, and don't forget those who have been waiting for the Marketplace so they could start making maps... You will always have these people come and go. The Sc2mapster Community is still very, very big, very strong, and very helpful. I wish it was like that when WC3 was big.
BUT: There is, and there should always be the people who make maps (or just tinker around with the editor) for the fun of it. As long as there are people who like making maps, good maps will continue to be made.
SC2 Editor and me
My plans aren't exactly the smallest. I want to make a 7map coop-campaign, with each map being set in a different game-genre while continuing on the same storyline. Map 1 is finished, Map 2 is around 60% complete. I started working on it when SC2 was released, but I did have my breaks whenever I got bored with it. I mean LONG breaks, sometimes 3-4 months or so.
I'm not forcing myself, not for anybody but myself. I'm trying to keep a low profile and not announce too much before its release. I know that at this rate I might be finished in 2015, but I don't care. The project is diverse enough to keep me interested in the long run, the SC2 editor is tons of fun with all its new possibilites to explore, and I have the experience (three wc3 campaigns) to know what it takes to complete this project. :)
