Alright. I have been struck by yet another brilliantidea. I recently completed LA Noire, and I also am looking for a map idea.
Anyways, so I was thinking. Would an LA Noire style game be plausible in sc2 multiplayer?
Here's sort of what I was thinking. There's, say 5 or 6 players. There is some sort of crime committed at the map start (murder, robbery, etc...) which is where all the players start. Each player is a detective hired to solve the crime (for the reward money, of course). Everything would be randomly generated; Number of witnesses there were, their motives/ attitudes towards players (IE if they lie or not), where they live, who preformed the crime, how it happened, etc...
The goal would be to solve the case, by providing all relevant details to the police captain (depending on the type of crime. Murder cases would require the murderer's identity, murder weapon, motive, etc...). It could kind of like LA noire in top down, with the main pillars of gameplay being
Interview Witnesses/Suspects
Try to guess if they are lying, telling the truth, doubtful, etc..
Gather Evidence
Possibly some light combat/chase mechanics
Sabotage/Hinder Other Players
Who knows? You could throw in a "Serial Killer" player trying to thwart the detectives.
For those who never played LA Noire. These are links to the game's "orientation" videos. ,
Anyways what do you guys think? I'm just throwing this idea out there :D
Yeah.... You would have to program in a GIANT list of questions/answers for each possible situation, which would be randomly generated on it's own, etc... lol
I just have like 6 different ideas in my brain right now trying to sort through them. I'm sure at least one of them could be fun :)
"Try to guess if they are lying, telling the truth, doubtful, etc.."
I was under the impression that LA Noire was not about guessing, but was about using one's powers of observation to read the non-verbal expressions in the NPCs' bodies and faces. An attempt at emulation that lacks this misses the only feature of the game one could consider innovative or novel.
Ya was about to say, the biggest problem would be to simulate lying in a non-obvious way on the sc2 engine.
The only way I would imagine you would do that would be through dialogues, but if you have to write all the pauses with "..." and *wipes off the sweat from his forehead* and that kind of stuff, it becomes less of a guessing game and more of a reading game :p
The game starts a random case is issued with random elements/clues/witnesses etc.
All players are given a random role (more on that later).
There will be a number of suspects from the start.
There will be a few scenes all players go through together.
In each scene you may perform X actions, such as check clues, interview witnesses, background checks etc.
You cannot check everything, so need to pick carefully and split your work effort amongst the team.
In between cases you can all chat, sharing clues etc.
At the end you all have to pick which suspect you think is.
If the Detectives guess right they wins?
There could then be a team 2 / neutrals etc. like on Mafia. Working against the detectives. Dirty cops trying to throw them off, serial killers killing witnesses, forgers corrupting evidence etc. etc.
That's more along the lines of a team based thing. That would probably work better than the original "quick! solve the case first" idea. I like the idea of a dirty cop or serial killer though.
But how would you pick the scenes you go to? Or would you just go along the pre-made route?

That sounds REALLY fun!!! Always enjoyed games like that! Itd probably be somewhat annoying to make, but if possible, I think itd be a great idea :D

That is correct, indeed. SO maybe "truth/lie/dobut" would be a bad idea. I could just put in "responses" instead of truth/lie/doubt.
I doubt that this would be possible at all, but I figured I would throw the idea out there anyways :D
Needs more ganandorf boss fights :p

Strictly speaking, it should be a reading game, just not a reading text game.

Yeah, it probably wouldn't work in sc2 :D
But I still like to throw ideas out there for people. Maybe get something popular that's actually unique...
It could work, create small voice overs, and people can try and voice a lie, by stuttering in some points eg:
Hey there officer, what can i do you for? - Calm
Oh, um, Hey there officer.. Uhh, can i help you with... Anything? - Nervous
Different system, worth a shot, you just need to listen rather than looking. :)
How about this kind of setup:
There could then be a team 2 / neutrals etc. like on Mafia. Working against the detectives. Dirty cops trying to throw them off, serial killers killing witnesses, forgers corrupting evidence etc. etc.
Thoughts?

Fulla, that idea sounds like Mafia, but with more detective work. Also sounds vulnerable to trolling.

Not quite sure, I'd need time to think about how it could work.
I imagine a pre made route.
Don't even know how one team would win like that thou lol.

Yeah I love mafia, so I drew alot of inspiration from it. Role play games are always vulnerable to trolling not much you can do.
