My team and I are looking for two people to do data editing for our project. We currently have a trigger editor, terrain designer, and two game designers. We are a fairly close knit team and have been working together since beta. Our project has recently taken a turn in scale that requires some additional help.
The Project
The project details are currently confidential. The most that can be said is that the project is a MOBA of sorts. It is so different from any existing game to make it hard to compare it easily.
Requirements
Any person that is looking to join the team must have access to voice chat. We all communicate regularly and we want to make sure that any new members can merge into the team easily.
Anyone looking to join can send me a private message. If you have any questions feel free to ask, but details about the project will not be given.
That's all fine and I understand your viewpoint. We are aiming for selling the map when blizzard gets that far and as such compensation is possible. I am also able to talk more about the project one on one, but spamming details to the world before a product release is bad business, any novice knows this.
Just out of curiosity, what are the "game designers" doing and do you really need 2 of them? I understand the need for a game designer on a full fledge AAA title. But in a custom moba style map it sounds more like someone who just gets to sit back and say "I want people to make this for me!". In other words, dead weight. But that is just my opinion.
I'm a data editor, a very good one I believe (Granted "good" is subjective). My point is, data editing is the hardest job in the editor along with maybe dialog creation (again this is just my opinion, no need for a flame war). Data editors that are good are hard to come by, mainly because we need to have the patience to sit and work on one ability for hours at a time. Few have this kind of skill set. It would infuriate me to no end if I was working on a team with guys that did nothing more than "brainstorm" while I was asked to spend hours, days, weeks of my time in the labyrinth of the data editor. Especially when your plan is to sell this map (Lets ignore the debate of whether or not the market place will ever even happen for the sake of discussion). I am assuming the game designers would get a cut of the [mythological] royalties? No dice amigo.
If I am completely wrong here and miss understood what "game designers" are then I apologize. My purpose is not to offend but to merely share my thoughts and concerns on the matter
So it sounds like if we were to PM you that you would actually give more details on the map. Why don't people just put PM me if you want details on the map?
I understand your view, however I think you don't fully understand what "game designers" do. In our team they are in charge of all balance, champion and game mode development and tweaking. I am one of the game designers, and while I can also data edit, I am spending a huge amount of time on design (thus this recruitment post). Once the game design is complete I will be switching to help with data editing. The other game designer is able to do great terrain work when he's not involved in the designing process.
You also must remember that there is a large difference between designing Tetris, and designing World of Warcraft =P

No, PM'ing would get you access to voice chat, then we could talk about the map ^_^
I might be semi interested, depends what it is. If you want to see a sample of my data work log onto Battle.net, and try Smashcraft. It will speak for itself. I would need to know what it is I'm actually commiting to though, and if it interests me furthur.
I will keep it confidential regardless of taking on the project or not.

Anyways just my two cents.
Game designers in essence develop the concepts and balance already in-place concepts. Its kind of silly to have "game designers" for a map project, as technically "game designers" are the ones who use the tools developed by the developers to create the content, usually. If you have made a map, you are a game designer, not really a programmer, or specialist. I think you should be able to operate all of the tools in the editor to really call yourself a designer.
I know what a game designer does. My point is you're not designing World of Warcraft here. If the designer is not actually contributing in some other way other than "ideas" such as terrain, data, triggers then he really isn't pulling his weight. To say that they will be spending all of their time "designing" and balancing the game, if anything is just insulting your other terrain, data and trigger team members by saying they are incapable of coming up with hero ideas while designing them. With projects this size you dont need to bring in an extra person in to do nothing but design. Your trigger guy can design and balance and contribute ideas, as can your data guy.
Now if your game designer is actually capable of using the data editor and doing the tweaks himself, then technically he is pulling his wait, he is working in the data editor.

"designers" in sc2 map editor terms are usually just guys with no editor skills who want all the credit without having to do any work.
Teehee, you will never be payed by blizzard for making a map with their editor, it runs on their system, therefore, they already own it, your name is just on it.
SC2 will have a map marketplace (date of release yet to be announced but is still coming so we are told), so in time you will be able to sell your map and make a profit out of it similar to the itunes app store.

Ahhh, behold a sacred red name :) Anyway, I'm not into data sorry. I'm a novice terrainer.
Yet another "our project idea is awesome but we won't share it with you to grab your attention" recruitment.
No offense, but you are banking on a lot of trust.
working on a project with no details given... I'm with zantai here... that wouldn't work unless you payed me
and this is another example why i reported you as a bad moderator. there was NO need for you to post here.
and, == i know how to make a heading ==, fool. in my other post, i was merely conjecturizing. yeah. i just made up a word...
