This REALLY reminds me of populous. I mean - in Black & White, at least fighting and your people played a big role. In both Populous and From Dust, it seems to be more of a 'lemmings' oriented style of play where you shepherd a bunch of people by transforming the land around them.
Anyone questioning replay value obviously didn't enjoy Minecraft. While the games are very different, the kind of activity they give you is very similar (Minecraft = legos, Dust = sand castles).
I disagree. Minecraft is legos, but like mentioned, From Dust seems to be more of a Populous style game where you have the goal in each mission to A) save your worshipping tribe from some kind of natural disasted or B) guide them to another point by fiddling with the terrain around them. More that than a 'freeform' mode where you just build landscapes. Besides, one of the reasons Minecraft is fun is because there's a variety of blocks that allow you to build virtually anything - in this game you seem to be limited to sand, water, lava and hard rock, and there is no building houses or recognizable objects - just landscapes with those four 'ingredients'. That does seem kind of tedious for a freeform game.
I'd buy minecraft before I bought this one. Seems more my style :D
Minecraft is this game that is not finished yet, but everybody plays. It's this sandbox game where you can build whatever you want with your friends, and then monstors show up and try to kill you. As far as I know, there are no real goals. You just screw around and build things.

I never liked Minecraft. I probably won't even play this like I'm supposed to, and just see if I can break their system somehow and look at how the meshes move. Does anyone know if it's voxel-based or heightmap?
My guess is on voxel. The polygon-approach would probably be too costly.
Here's another vid of a different engine. The vid should be watched with a healty dose of scepticism. But if it's true it would lead into a new age of graphics technology.
They're not the only ones working on something like this though:
Voxels use polygons too, it's just a different way of getting the positional data. They use the volumetric element then typically will run the marching cubes algorithm or something and get a polygonal overlay.
And unlimited detail thing is stupid, they've been talking about that for years.
