If we did anything along these lines, i think a better idea would be to make actual playable maps that last 5-10 minutes with 2-4 players, make a LOT of those maps, all different though, but have all use the same bank file, get players to actually gain points for each game they finish, and give them a good reason to play again: more points unlock stuff.
If we did something like that, where there are actual fun maps to play, there is absolutely no reason to ban us - we provided short good maps that coincidentally took up the first 2 pages of bnet AND mock the popularity system.
Of course, every map will have mockeries of the popularity system in every way possible. I think the name "popularity wars" should be in each map with an appropriate suffix :)
some ideas:
very short TD, tower upgrades are unlocked by "popularity wars points", and spawns are increased accordingly
Some Hero-based maps (defenses, wars, etc.) in which your hero is saved, and gets ability/talents/items based on the PWP (popularity wars points)
A tug map, which again gives bonuses for PWP
To use the same bank file I believe you have to have the same publisher, with good reason, or maps could commit bank-file terrorism. :P

Better still, instead of 5-10 minute maps, why not make them last 15-25 minutes? We could also integrate upgrades, the player could choose different heroes... possibly create unlockable heroes the more times you play.
Soul, seriously dude? Give up on the "hurr u has not even got sc2!", why do you think I don't have the fucking game? Goddamn. I'm not gonna buy a broken ass game just so I have the right to say it's a broken ass game. The popularity and publishing systems are the reason I haven't bought the game, and I wont buy it until those are fixed. Which is why I'm bashing on them so hard. Because aslong as they're broken as shit, I can't enjoy the good parts of the game.
Also, if you hate it so much, don't come to threads where people are hating on these broken systems. If you wanna be a fanboy and defend Blizzard's honor, do so, but just as you say crying on these forums wont make a difference, you crying wont make any difference either.
As to the topic at hand, I believe this could work, and I don't see how blizzard could ban anyone. I mean if they started banning people for this, they'd basically be telling everyone "we ban you for making maps that fall under our guidelines, but we still don't like" talk about bad publicity. It'd make martyrs of anyone who was banned. But they wouldn't anyways, aslong as our maps abide by all their rules, they wont ban you. So I agree with the ideas presented, every spams short 5 minute maps for 2-4 people all based around mocking the popularity system.
Players should not fear their game company, the game company should fear their players!
Of course you don't have to worry about being banned because you didn't pay for your copy of the game.
Anyone who argues against what you're saying isn't necessarily a fanboy... frankly just sick of seeing a decent amount of unrelated threads turn into this kind of thing because of ...well, you. And it's not a case of simply not joining the threads, because I could probably quote you from any number of threads trolling incendiary remarks.
Should we just ignore you instead? I think that's a better solution.
Seriously though do you not have a day job or a girlfriend or something? You really need to check yourself. Maybe go outside, get some fresh air, read a newspaper, see what else is going on in the world. The situation on Battle.net 2.0 really isn't this important. They've already heard from thousands of upset customers, hopefully they fix it. If they don't, it's just a game.
Oh I lulz hard when people try to bring real life into this. "Hurr ur upset about blizzard breaking one of the best things in their games, you must not have a life" Sure... ok. You betchya.
Besides, I don't comment on the pop system in threads that don't involve it. It aint my fault that these types of threads get spammed straight to hell, I mean I've made ONE topic on the subject, this one. So don't try to play it off like I'm spamming the entire forums, I'm keeping it to the topics that deal with the subject matter.
Also, anyone defending this system -IS- a fanboy. Because you can't justifiably defend a system that all but kills custom gaming, the only people who would defend such a system are fanboys, and people who actually wanna see the system die. So yeah, I'll call them a fanboy, since they act like one.

Fact is, Bnet 2.0 is released and staying. Blizzard would have changed it sooner if it "didn't work", it just does not work the way the custom gamers from War3 and SC1 would like it too.
All games progress and evolve and not all games make the right decisions BUT the good companies fix those problems or build on them to make them better. Blizzard is well known for breaking things that are not broken. but they also do a damn good job of fixing them as well.
Whilst I would like the popularity system to die in a hole, this is not likly going to happen so rather than bitching about it contiuosly and coming up with some terror attack on THEIR servers, either come up with constructive ideas to improve the system, because whether you like it or not, its probably going to stay.
The popularity has potential to work well, as I have said before its just a killer for new games coming into the system.
If you don't like it, then shut up you havn't even bought the game your not going to buy the game bad luck you can miss out. end of story
BTW Colt hasnt even purchased SC2 and as of yet has never logged on to bnet since beta.......
Disregard all his complaints against the pop system....
Just because he hasn't purchased SC2 isn't a reason to disregard his complaints. As long as he knows what the popularity system is (and by the sounds of his complaints, it seems like he does), then there is no reason his complaints can't be valid. The problem with the pop systems is rather simple and shouldn't be all that hard to grasp even for someone who doesn't have SC2.
For everybody else.... Blizz has already said they will be making changes to the popularity system....
If Blizzard is making changes then that's great. (I believe you, but can you provide links because I'm interested what exactly they have said they are fixing?)
Crying on sc2mapster will not help the situation. Your time would be better spent looking for people to help you test your map on a consistent basis. Even if all of you who hate the pop system pool together and try to manipulate the system you wont get on the first page unless people enjoy your map.
He's not crying on sc2mapster. He's telling people to stop crying on sc2mapster and actually do something... I'm not saying that this executing this idea is a worthwhile use of time or that it would be all that effective, but it is doing something so I just find your statement 'Crying on sc2mapster will not help the situation' a bizarre response to this thread. (there are plenty of other posts you could have used that on in other threads, but in this thread? No.)

Agreed, but the rest of your post was in bad taste. The whole 'get a life thing' is a lame way of bashing someone.
He only has 174 posts. He doesn't have to be sitting at the computer all day posting about the popularity system to get 174 posts. The fact that he doesn't even have SC2 probably means that he doesn't spend that much time thinking about the popularity system in the first place and only on occasion when he goes on SC2Mapster (this can be disputed, but isn't the point of my post anyway so let's not argue about how much he cares or doesn't care). You simply disagree with what he is saying and how he spends his time. While you think it is a waste, apparently he does not. Who are you to say he has no life?
I could just as easily tell all mapmakers to 'get a life' because they're wasting time making maps instead of going outside, getting some fresh air, reading a newspaper, or seeing what else is going on in the world. Oh, and to top it off they aren't spending time with their girlfriends either!
Saying someone has no life just sounds ridiculous.
Note: I personally admire mapmakers and all the hard work they put into making custom maps for people to enjoy for free! Thank you guys so much! =D
As much as the popularity system sucks, this is a very bad idea. It will only result in a large number of mapmakers getting banned.
If you want to do something then perhaps we should do something more constructive. One idea would be a boycott of the custom games for a few days, where we ask players not to play any custom games and ask mapmakers to similtaneously take off their maps for a few days. We could even try to get some SC2 sites such as sc2 mapster or team liquid to feature an article about the boycott on their front page. The idea behind the boycott wouldn't be "we will boycott custom maps until our demands are met" but rather it would be "we are boycotting custom maps for a few days to draw attention to our concerns about the popularity system".
A second idea could be the creation of a 'replace the popularity system' contest on sc2 mapster where mapmakers give their suggestions on the best way to fix the popularity system, provide images, and then sc2 mapster picks the top three suggestions (either by voting or by judges) and we submit the top three suggestions to Blizzard.
A more constructive approach would probably have a greater chance to be taken seriously by Blizzard.
Watch the Starcraft 2 custom map panel. Read the interviews. They are aware the system has issues and want to improve it. Spamming pointless maps to the top isn't going to make them aware of the problem, because they are already aware.
Sit back and wait for the changes. Meanwhile, we can rely on sites such as sc2mapster to help get new maps played and noticed. :)

Have to agree.
And, They have enough of this on their own forums anyway. I would not risk getting banned over a haphazard plan either. This is futile.
