What so your not going to at least try it? It's pretty cool that they can clone DOTA... with the galaxy editor engine in SC2 style. When the new editor comes out with Blizzard DOTA... custom maps can be created that are on par with HON/DOTA 2 or whatever in a sense that they will have the same functionality.
But the gap between sc2 sotis and wc3 is already too big...sorry but from what Iv tried sotis it lacked balance, had mediocre hero design, many UI things were kind of bad....I think it might have become better over time, but it just wont be as good. It doesnt even bring anything new to the table so, I see no reason to try it again. I really cannot think anyway that Sotis outshines wc3 dota. Even graphics are worse imo (cause the space them doesnt suit it so well, and awfull use of lighting, as well as heroes in wc3 had several animations which I miss.)
What Zenx said. The couple of times I did play it I just had this "ew" feeling that made me want to get out the game asap (even though I did finish every match). There's just so much off with it I'm not sure it could be fixed without creating a whole new map. I don't hate it per definition but I do know it can never be as good as LoL to start with, which means I probably won't ever try it again.
So what do you guys think will be necessary to create a decent hero pvp arena map in Starcraft 2?
Mephs?
For an AoS - not a lot more than SOTIS or any DOTA game has really, it just has to be executed right. Better balance, no shitty ass interface, lore as backbone... that kind of jazz.
Instead of simply bashing out that it completely sucks and that there are other better games out there. Why not try helping out with improving the game? For God's sake SOTIS isn't some industrial game like LoL/DotA 2; it's a fan-made game, and the creators don't even work on it for a living, so why are you even comparing it in the first place?
Honestly, have you guys even played the latest version of SotIS? It has changed so much over the months: The map is completely different, the Shop UI is neat, and a lot of cool new heroes were recently released. Don't just say that Heroes are imbalance without any support, don't say that the Interface is complete shit without saying what's exactly bad about it, and don't say that the Hero designs are straight up stupid without showing an example.
The gist that I'm getting is, since most of us here are SC2 Map Makers, we tend to start hating other Map Makers because their map became popular. This is completely absurd.
Again If you really feel that SOTIS isn't good enough, please explain what's missing in it. I'm sure the devs will look into it. The best thing I could do is send him a message about the feedback here. I'm serious about this, and I hope to God that you guys are too.
I'm not going to say that everything about SOTIS sucks, But its the fact that it is uncomfortable to play, I guess is the best way of putting it, It feels very unnatural. And it is fine to compare SOTIS with HoN and LoL, and Dota 2, and Blizz all stars since all are free to play.
Now sotis does have a few nice features, but for the most part its bloody uncomfortable.
:3 Question... Does the map really suck... or do you simply suck at playing at it and thusly you think the game sucks because you are always being pwned like a noob?
I dont suck at it... but it feels awkward. Dota was not made for Sc2... that much is certain. And having to select your hero every 5 seconds makes it that much worse, and the camera doesnt follow...
So it feels cheap. Things that will never be changed ruin it.
having to select your hero every 5 seconds <snip> camera doesnt follow
Actually, this was addressed less than 3 months after initial release (2 years ago) when we added spacebar centering, -hl (hero lock) mode, and made creeps unselectable. Vanilla DotA had none of these things, and suffered from everything you're describing o _o. Which is wierd, because by that logic... it would mean DotA wasn't made for WC3... ?
Has anyone played the SOTIS update. The new heroes are interesting... especially the DOTA 2 Invoker style Hybrid Maar.... it's pretty cool
No. There are so many things I hate in sotis. Play lol or original dota instead or even hon to have a better time.
Hahaha shocking
And yeah I tried it. Same "stuff", different day

@Mozared:
I will make sure to include jazz in my latest AoS project, then.
Try Dota 2, it will deliver.

I was sitting on the toilet when I heard a rumbling from the internet that could only have occurred at the utterance of my name.
Hi.
I suck at SotIS, but it's honestly a really awesome map with the latest updates.

Well they can fix that with a trigger fix where the hero unit is always selected...

I am confus.
Hi Sixen :)

I'm not going to pretend to be too familiar with the game, But the 3 or 4 times I have tried it, it has felt weird.
But there are a few nice features too.
