I found a very efficient method of getting people to play that is through the chat channels. It's soo efficient that I can get 14 players in less than a minute. No more hours waiting in lobby, FINALLY!
That is, until today. It seems Blizzard is not liking my efficient method. So they sent me another warning e-mail. :(
"Hello Rodrigo, Thank you for your email. My name is John and I will be assisting you. Unfortunately, spamming is against the TOU. I'm not sure how you would promote a custom map otherwise, but please, don't do it in the chat channels. Check the forums for another method."
Another efficient way of getting your map popular:
Have a popularity reset 1 hour before Map Night and have the 20 participants play a long round on your map.
It works. HLW is first page now on EU.
I was wondering why the EU popularity list was so messed up, Maity. Catalyst is suddenly back, The Last Stand is gone, Nexus Wars isn't even on top anymore and the two new most popular maps are maps I've never seen or played before.
My guess is that they randomized it. It's the same deal on the NA servers. My TD is finally back to page two. I almost lost my right to unrightfuly sit on my high horse.

You may just come off as annoying in most cases(Which is why someone reported you for spamming?). As for it being efficient, I supposes its very "variable" depending on the actual map. In the case of your melee maps ICJug, It would prove effective. As that player base is most likely oblivious to Sc2mapster and whatever we thus promote/display here, and the Blizzard "Custom maps" forum.
I think they are doing population resets at random times to try and get random maps up the top, it seems to be working there are finally different maps on the first page and I like how its working.
For those of your favourite maps that are no longer there and were on the first page, you just have them bookmarked and they still fill up fast because of that reason they are bookmarked by a lot of people for being on the front page.
My page 3/4 map had its popularity counter locked for 18 hours and fell to page 20something because of that. It's not coming back anytime soon, because bookmarks are a tiny fraction of what people actually click and you know that. In the meanwhile the smart Battle.net playerbase was playing every single bad clone of popular maps they found on the first pages... but yep that was brilliant, we should bow down to Blizzard for finally doing something :)
It is unacceptable to freeze the popularity of any map to expose others. They act like popular maps have nothing to lose.
This is ridiculous. We earned those spots on the first pages. The other maps did not. There's absolutely no reason they should be given our place. If they can't make it to th first page, that's their problem.

How about no.
How do you think my Platform Defense map suddenly disappeared from the first page? This is not the first time Blizzard locks the popularity counter of popular maps. I had 2 maps on the 1st page: one disappeared because of the popularity counter lock and the other disappeared because it was banned. Now that I'm trying to make a third map popular, I get a warning e-mail! Great! I like how Blizzard motivates me to keep map making for free.
I think Blizzard just hates you Rodrigo. I've been advertising my maps in chat channels since they started and I haven't heard a peep from Blizzard. Also when people whine about me advertising I just tell them to mute me, which seems to work. It's like they forget they can do these things.
People are lazy by nature. If you don't get in their face about your maps then they have no stimulus to try them. They'll just keep playing the same garbage over and over and over again until they become catatonic, even as they complain that there are no good Starcraft 2 maps. I find it to be rather amusing.

:*(
@RodrigoAlves: Go
if you ask people if they want to play your map is spamming???
Omg...what the world has turned...
An efficient method of getting people to play?
@Mozared: Go
LOL
lemme rephrase that

HLW fell back to page 3 though, shamefully :(

Yes, if you ask them in many chat channels at the same time.

What ever blizzard is doing its working well imo

@RodrigoAlves: Go Exactly. In fact, they should lock the popularity counter of popular maps in the Up&Coming section.
