I know some of you guys are brilliant programmers out there. Does anyone have any ideas on how to successfully implement protection on maps? People who maintain this site have Blizzard contacts, and if we come up with something that sounds like a legitimate solution, we could have the idea passed onto Blizzard.

By the way i hate sims... and i like discussions... none of what i said made sense? Nothing remotely interesting...?
edit: yeah, just reread, you guys like to "forget reading" and frantically type frenetically what comes out of your head... and i feel for you, must not get you much helpful conversation or (worse) action...
I was not complaining i was discussing, i only got disagreeable when mentioning facts, so argue about those, please.. or go back in mama's skirts where you belong...
"go play SIMS or something ", you should try anger management, it's just out, go for it, trust me
The second part of my post didn't have anything to do with you or what you said personally - just in general as it seems every topic i have been reading today on forums turns into people crying and complaining about Blizzard. Sorry I should have clarified when quoting you as some of your post was interesting.
I think you are misinterpreting here. The mapmakers will be the ones selling the maps. Yes obviously Blizzard will probably take a cut, but it is the may makers choice to keep it free.
The extent of a contract would likely be accepting some agreement just like you do with the End User Liscense Agreement.
The way that I interpret the marketplace is that it would be run basically like the App Store for iPod, iPad, iPhone, Mac, etc.
The majority of the app store is crap. I believe it is due to monetary motivation. You can release anything after the initial fee with no downside to it sucking. If 100 people unwittingly try each of your apps, you've made money.
It's different in retail productions where the funding requirements are a barrier to entry and weed out crap. As does competition for retail shelf space.
Where'd blizz say that you can't use their art assets for premium maps?
Personally I think the map marketplace is a great idea- on the assumption that if/when it comes it's well implemented. It would give dedicated mappers incentive to keep up at it, supply players with better content, and add significantly to Blizzard's revenue stream.
Cuz it's the thing to do these days, let's take Smashcraft for example. I'm not saying I'd consider it 'premium'. Anyway. Imagine a premium version where an accurate online leaderboard was kept, each hero had customizable skins/alternate costumes, where there weren't 4 (or however many) different varied arenas, but 30+ that can be voted for or picked at random (a la smash bros). On top of this there are monthly 'tournament' maps that can only be joined as a team with a certain rating.
People likely got that idea from the Blizzcon 2009 videos talking about the map marketplace. Dustin Browder said that premium custom maps would need to consist of a lot of custom content. Now that may have been miscommunicated somewhere along the line and someone started saying that there could be no blizzard art assets in the premium maps. As far as I know that statement Vexal made on the second page of comments is incorrect. If you would like to back that up with a source though Vexal I'd be interested in seeing it though. As far as I know Blizzard has never said something to that extent. In fact we can use assets from any of Blizzard's games. We aren't charging for their assets - we're charging for our gameplay mechanics.

I actually read the thread where you stated SIMs in your post right before this one LOL hence the bitchy comment, I forgot boys played SIms http://forums.sc2mapster.com/general/off-topic/18802-your-1st-3-games/#p19

Money has no place in a system like this.

You're wrong if you think it's a good idea, simply because it's the opposite of a good idea.
It's a bad idea. Therefore, thinking it is a good idea is a bad idea.
QED.

What's IDGI?
I don't have a source. I thought I heard it somewhere. It's possible I didn't. Maybe it was a dream. It could also be true.
We'll see!
