Don't know what to say about this "new" system.
It could work, but I still can't believe it.
The problem with the old system was, that when the maps were at the top of the list they couldn't be taken down, so basically its now the same.
When the first page is full, everybody will join the first page, so you still can only play maps showed on the first page, so how is this system better?
This system is the same shit since its always like: 1. Page 2. Page 3. Page.....
Its a lot better because a map like The Final Frontier, which has up to 14 players and can last over an hour, can actually slightly compete with maps like Battlecraft with 4 players and 15 minute games.
It doesn't address the root problems of popularity sort really, but at least it doesn't screw you over for making long-lasting games with lots of players.
And than?
So now are the maps on the first page maps that are played longer ?
Still you can't play a map on the 3. 4. 5. 6....... Page
But I don't think there were such a problems with longer maps.
My map is player 33 minutes and it was 3rd and still is on the first page.
Star Battle was 1st and is still at top even if you play it really long normally.
This is still exploitable. Not just authors but ravenous fanbois can have their way with this all the same except with less effort than before. Unique players per day Blizz, do it.
Why can't they fucking get it right? Is it REALLY that hard? Have we not comeup with dozens of solutions to even fix it for them since they can't seem to grasp how to make this work? I just don't understand what's going on in their heads to think everyone isn't pissed about this crappy system.
And I hate the fact that it shows the maps that dont have players. In wc3 you knew there would be atleast 1 fucking person there! No need to wait ffs....Even if the game has like 10000hours played by hour, it sure doesnt seem so (2+ page games still need some serious waiting for people to join them).
Hardly anyone has mentioned this, but I think is a major flaw that the maps display even if there are no players...and maybe someone just plays the maps alone just to boost their own maps?!
The popularity system is just plain bad...It needs some serious modification to make it better....
Its better at least, since now you are not confined to making little tiny maps just to be popular. BUT, the popularity system is still flawed. All they need to do for a major improvement is just add a search box to the join game menu.

This is what I think is the biggest problem with the current system, together with the lack of sorting options. I would atleast be almost fully satisfied if they add a search box with the possibility to put in different search parameters and allow sorting of the game list after things such as time played, name and type.
Yea, popularity system is still flawed, but at least its improving. Now long high-player-count maps will have a chance as well. Once the patch hits i'll probably set the maximum player slots in my map to 8 cause it won't decrease my popularity then... The system still has a long way to go.
And i totally agree about having more sorting and searching options... Something so simple can't be THAT hard... They have it for create game, can't they just even copy paste that function into join game?
They can totaly gut out popularity system, and it would still be a total improvement. I don't see how having minutes played matter. At most, it'll reorder page one, but it'll still be the same maps up there. Big deal.
I'm just gonna go right out and say it "No amount of tweaking the popularity will ever make everyone satisfied with it".
Don't they have a "newly uploaded" filter? That needs to get more exposure, then more people will start using that to give the new maps a chance to move up.
@Twinmold20:
We'd need to be able to add tags to our map like "TD tower defense defence defend" etc so people would find your map if they were simply searching tower defense...

Is it minutes per player or did they fail yet again and make it only minutes per map? Which would promote few player maps.

Cortex is probably now going to bomb all other maps lol. :P Oh, and Single player campaigns are going to die. :P

Lol, I can just imagine someone spamming their map by sitting in the same game for 24 hours
That'd be funny. :P
