That and you cannot play custom maps offline in any case, or privately without publishing them...
Blizzard really screwed up again, because they thought that they would be helping everyone by making em all forced to publish 5 map slots, and 10MB of space... PER ACCOUNT.
What if you just want to download a map you find on the internet, and just want to load it in?
What if you want to play on these maps, but not publish them?
Maybe private game rooms are able to set it up by loading the file using a file manager, like the old SC1 way... Then it can be set to open for others to join.
I know people want to publish things with ownership to them, but this system also kills the efficiency of pulling up a map and GO! Especially if you've got like 10-20 maps.
If you owned SC1, go look in the maps/downloads/ folder... And count how many maps you've gotten back then...
I've lost track of mine to around 100 I think...
This is a beta, I assume they're beta testing the publish system to see if the system itself works. There could very well be safeguards or other mechanics we don't know about yet, as this is just testing the system itself. I definitely think publishing others' maps in open format is rude, but given the lack of alternative and how new the system is, I do think some or even most don't know that's happening. Definitely try to get the first publish out there with a locked map, but keep in mind, this is all a test and will be purged by fire a couple of weeks before release, at latest.
Still, if publishing is the only way to access a custom map unless the author publishes it himself will only lead to the same problem again in the future. Here's to hoping there's a better solution on the way.
What's to prevent people from publishing maps of other people upon release? It's pretty much whoever publishes the map first and taking credit of the map. Blizz needs some way to "reserve" publishing of certain maps based on what's currently on sc2mapster imo.

Nothing really.. I'm going to try and talk to someone.

Well the simplest solution is surely the best in this case; publish the first version of your map before you upload it anywhere.
How does the map versioning work anyway? If I upload MyEpicMap v1.00, can someone else upload MyEpicMap v1.01 to screw with me?
Unfortunately, it's already on Curse and Mapster. :S Though, I do have a YouTube Video of it, showing the map under my name. That could help ward off thieves.

I did some testing last night, locking a map doesn't actually do anything yet...
Actually, Locked maps have the file "Triggers" removed. So while you can still open the map in the editor, you won't have any of the triggers.
That's not a very good idea... I can still view all the Triggers through Galaxy, :P. It also means Melee maps cannot be locked.
I want our old system back... :'(
I remember I had like 500 maps and I downloaded them a lot from good sites. Now that won't work anymore.

Yup. If that's the name of the map, anyway.
It's because they did not double wrap it.
Hmm... this is worrying me. I don't want anyone publishing my test map, and claim it to be theirs.
Keep it private and just play your test maps with friends if that's the case.

Did they fix locking? As in can you play locked maps in public now?
