Someone suggested it a couple weeks ago so it's finally time i unveil my project that's been in the works since December.
This game will play very similarly to the original Warcraft III map Ice Trolls by Kyxoan and Xel'Naga.
So far the core engine is complete, hunger, heat and energy system is finished, inventory system is done as well as constructing buildings and cooking items. I'm getting close to the final stages of development. Ill keep you guys posted in this thread. happy modding!
Yeah, and those are only the ones that have been released, or considered big projects. I mean, there is an entire forum devoted to games in development, and that forum is pretty full. Assuming those games don't join the pile of "the editor is too hard" or "the editor limits me to what? I'm done".
But I do know that projects like The Market (a game I am working on) aren't even looked at and considered as games in the making, due to the assumption that they will be joining one of those piles. In fact, The Market almost did.
But I assure you, you and I are not even close to the only people working on big projects in secret. What do you think that the 20,000 people watching OneTwo's tutorials are doing? Drinking tea? No one drinks tea to OneTwo! Husky is where the tea is at. But that is not the point! His videos are watched by people learning the ways of the editor, and attempting to make maps. I actually have no idea why I wrote that, but I think you get my point. There are lots of maps being made, and some of them are bound to be at least above average. (I hope....)
Oh and FYI not everyone played WC3, which you may be assuming. I don't know, at this point I'm just rambling.
Icetroll Tribes is a game that I made before the version now that is popular was popular? Ugh, Kyx's version from memory? Long before the Island Maps/Jungle Maps etc ... I am not trying to take any credit or anything - I never released the map, but I love Kyx's classic Ice Trolls compared to any other survivor map.
It was stupidily advanced for the time, polished etc ... the screenshot above was an old jpg I found on the other computer that I uploaded about 8 months ago. You could literally click on your "build" or "construct" abilties, it would load that commandcard which you could then select a building, see the placeholder, place it on the ground, and it would use your resources (items), say you had 3 slate, picked up 4 but could only carry 5, you would carry 5 slate + 2 slate, if you wanted to use 6 slate to build something you would then be left with 1 slate. If you didn't have the resources you couldn't build it. It is simple now, but at the time it was unheard of.
Not only that you would freeze faster in water, you could mine gold, dig tunnels, etc, it was amazing. But alas like every other thing I ever did in Wc3 I didn't release it. I have hundreds of maps I didn't release, so sad. You could create a "Tribe Totem Pole" and other players could join your "Tribe" by clicking on the totem pole, you could name your tribe, leave other tribes etc etc. There would be bonuses for being in a tribe, you could capture wild animals as pets etc.
I wanted so badly to bring Ice Trolls to Sc2, or something similar, but I made the choice to do Tofu / TMA first. I told many people that after TMA was released I wanted to make a survivor map - so your map better be damn pro mate. Or I am going to come for you like I am going to go for Phantom Mode :D
Kyxoan here, (no I am not a random that was like oh cool let me impersonate the old author) I just want to say, I am glad to see my legacy is being brought over to SC2 and I look foward to playing it. If you need any development help, I'd be happy to help, however technical crap in SC editor, I have no idea =/.
Believe it or not, I created this when I was 15 years old way back when, it was a fun project, but eventually there was really nothing left to do. I always aimed at making it a survival with a strategic base planning warfare game, more so than just build and survive. That was why I added the various traps and defenses for a base, as well as the ability to make tree bases and mountain bases.
What direction do you plan on taking this map? Will you adhere to the original few versions of my map where it was mostly just PVE with a PVP twist, or will the goal be to make the best war forged base available while surviving the elements?
If anyone feels the need to contact me for anything, i'm pretty much always on aim @ kproskater7
Good luck with this! I hope I can get in on some beta testing.
Here's a list of key features and goals for this project:
- Make the player forget they're playing Starcraft II by including custom GUI from myself along with recycled graphics, sound, music and more from WoW and Warcraft III.
- Instead of picking a class at the start of the game, you will select skills, and physical upgrades to customize your own class or build. So once you reach a certain level, the game will determine what kind of class you are and give you an "ultimate ability". For example if you pick mostly strength and melee skills and upgrades, you will be given a warrior ability which may be called Berserk which will change your troll's model temporarily into the big and muscular ice troll model from WoW.
- Randomly generated world (uniqueness of maps will improve as patches are released.)
- Random bosses or features will be generated before the game begins. One game you might find a wandering wholly Rino on the island with the most abundant resources, other games may have a more primitive species controlled by a custom AI that has a tribe of their own.
That's all I can think of for now! I'll try releasing a short gameplay demo as soon as I can.
that sounds really cool though, apparently the SC2 editor is much more complex than the WC3 one, I loaded it up one time and couldn't figure out how to make a unit so I gave up lol.

Looks good! So much silent projects are in the works... I'm curious, keep us updated! :)
really? what else is in the works? I think everyone is waiting for the map market IMO (im one of them :P)

I wouldn't count on the market... It seems to be something that Blizzard suggested to keep mapmakers making maps and not complaining about no rewards.
Great to be back and part of the community again!

Well, aside from yours, TMA and AoS2, to name two.
I was a huge fan of ITT. I'd have to say that other than DotA, the only War3 Custom Map I could stand was ITT, so yay! :D.

I would love to see your work in progess mate.
I liked Winter Survival or whatever you call it. It was much simpler and it was a villager instead of a troll. But I enjoyed Island Troll Tribes.

Make it happen! It was one of my favorites back then in wc3 <3. Hope that you will succeed with it!
Sounds really awsome, I'm looking forward to it:D
