I haven't touched the Galaxy Editor since the major rework. I remember it not being the fastest program ever, but it is running at a snails pace. It takes it 10 seconds just to open the Actor Events section of an actor. I have a much faster computer than I did before, so this doesn't make sense.
I am working on a map with A LOT more custom data, would that make a difference?
Forget about the cinematic thread right now, and someone take 3 seconds to answer this question. It's annoying the hell out of me how slow this thing is.
The build up time for the UI in the data editor often increses, the longer I am mapping. I believe due to RAM capacity being hit. Easy solution: Shut down editor and reopen/restart it once in a while.
Thanks guys. Just ran into a stranger problem... I opened the editor on my laptop (a good laptop, but not nearly as powerful as my desktop) and it opened literally 6 times as fast. 2 seconds instead of 12. Also, panning around the map in the terrain view lags on my desktop, with the same amount of lag no matter what setting I am on.
I am so confused right now... fx 8150 + 8gb 1866mhz RAM + SSD + AMD 7970 graphics... I have NO idea why I am running into problems.
Usually it gets faster if you restart your pc, because it builds up alot of background processes that you can't see. Have you tried lower settings in the editor? Maybe virus.
How new is the Desktop, if Starcraft 2 Editor is the first thing you've tested on it there maybe other programs with problems if one of you new Hardware Component's is faulty. If you got the parts through new egg it should be returnable still. It sounds like the GPU might be overheating making it throttle itself to prevent complete failure.

Blizzard Fan since Starcraft. The Single Player story is AMAZING IMO, I can't wait for the Expansions. In Warcraft 3 I only enjoy the Custom Maps scene (& Blizzards...
My trigger editor is painfully slow when loading and working with large triggers. That was definitely an issue caused by 1.5. Some things are way faster, like list loading for example. I don't know if anybody else has this issue, but it's slowing up progress on starmon a lot and it annoys me :P

I mean the computer runs really, really fast with everything else. It's just the editor. It's very strange. The only thing I can think of is that my laptop has Windows 8, which is way faster.
I think that I'm going to have to go with a clean install of Windows. I have been using it for a while, and there is a lot of random stuff on there that I either only used once, don't use anymore, or was installed accidentally with another program. I have no idea what some of it is. I guess bloatware.
So I will see what happens after the clean install. If it's still slow, I will try installing Windows 8. If that doesn't work, well, I will build my Intel build a bit earlier than I was intending. Hopefully that will solve the problem.
Also, I here that Radeon 7xxx series are having massive driver problems, which is what I have. Could that have anything to do with it? I would assume not, considering that the program isn't even remotely graphics based...
I wasn't going to post anything under this account :P, but whatever, I figured I could answer this for you :P. Its Probably because Starcraft 2 lacks Multi-Core support, It doesn't use more then 2 cores, so your laptop probably has less cores but with more GHZ,
Also I always close the terrain editor if the Terrain + Data is open data will lag like hell.
Hmmm... I suppose that could be the issue. I have an fx 8150 from AMD in my desktop (8 core) and a 3630M Intel in my laptop (quad core). I suppose that it would make more sense that the quad core would be faster than the 8 core if only 2 cores are being utilized. However, I don't understand how none of my cores change their workload at all when the editor is loading something. I monitor the load of each core, and they barely go up 10%. I can't even tell which 2 of the 8 cores are being used...

Not that slow for me, but actor events has always been slower than the rest of the editor (except when you open the previewer, that's slow).
Check the Actors in XML View, you might have hit the "Invalid Link" bug.
