I am assuming that by targeting mode you are referring to when you use an ability and the crosshair shows up for selecting a target for your ability.
You can just create a dummy ability that requires a target but otherwise does nothing. Then you write a trigger for when a unit uses an ability, and get the target point with Target Point for Triggering Ability.
There's a reason that people don't really create trigger-based abilities anymore, though. Data-based abilities are much more efficient.
But if i have custom UI, i need to order unit use target ability by triggers.. And thats where is my problem - if its ability with target (especially if its AoE target ability) - i cant order unit use this ability, cuz i have no target.
So what you think about - how to make player enter target mode if you have custom UI?
Such as when a unit uses an ability (condition: ability needs target) then run trigger "Custom Target UI" and have it bring up a custom graphic that moves with the mouse and then when you click, it gets the target point based on mouse position. Another way would just to have your ability automatically used in front of the unit instead of targetting so either it doesn't need a target or you set the target to the position of unit offset by # so that its infront of the unit.
I am still learning the Data Editor myself so not sure how you could do this with the Data Editor.
With the new patch (1.2), using Layout files you could just use the built in command panel, hide the other stuff and then customize it to your liking so then you can just have people use the built in command panel and that should bring up the built in targetting system.
Searched forums like mad and no answer I have custom UI I have custom ability that needs target (currently its jsut simple stalker blink)
i suppose there no normal way to enter targeting mode (♥ blizz) so what systems you guys saw or thought about?

You could script your own targetting system.

Ty, i think in the same direction. But then i just repeat what blizz done - may be there's a better solution than develop own target ability system?
(sry multipost) may be anyone already developed such system?
