I need the Hellion to be able to attack to a point instead of a unit to get an ability I'm working on to work correctly, but when I change all the unit values over to point values, the hellion stops attacking and just points at the target instead. Could somebody assist me with getting this to work correctly? I'd prefer not to use any triggers for it, as it would add unnecessary complications.
I'm fairly certain that the effect isn't happening, as the units within the range of the attack don't take any damage when I select a point that should include them in the AoE.
Aright, here's an update if anyone is willing to help.
I've created an ability that shoots hellion flames in 8 different directions to use with a weapon that I'm planning to make. So far I've successfully got the damage to work as intended, but the actual flames are not working. They appear to be firing at random points, rather than the 8 directions as I want them to. Does anybody have any idea how to work the hellion actors? There's so many of them, and the process is really confusing...
Do u mean 8 directions with 8 different targets, i don't think it's possible. U can only choose 1 target a time, and 7 other will be random(which mean like search area).
If u want targets is either points or units, then i think change target unit to target unit/point in some effects may work (not try yet :D ).
By 8 directions I mean the four cardinals and the four diagonals (North, South, East, West, NorthEast, NorthWest, etc...) and to correctly set the ability up I need to change the hellion's attack ability to be able to correctly target a point rather than a unit, as I described in the initial post.
I have the damaging area set up correctly, but I'm having troubles with the hellion's flame animation as it seems to be targeting random points in the unit's range rather than what I need it to do.
the hellion "fire model" is set up to react to the unit it is damaging. it is kind of fickle for editing in this manner. what i did to make a marine shoot as a flame thrower, was make the gun effect a persistent that marked like 3 time in front of him to do the damage in the line. then i changed the action of the marine models gun (flash of light at tip of gun) to be the hellion fire model and the flame thrower worked. youre going to have to think outside the box instead of editing the hellion action actor most likely. im yet to see anyone on here explain that actor fully and have seen a many handful of posts asking / confused by it.
my advice; scrap the whole hellion effect / actor and make your own and just put in the hellion fire model in there. (not really sure what youre meaning by your ability to tell you any specifics...)
EDIT; from above i mean the hellion model is STILL doing dmg, but since its not damaging a unit a certain times the efect has not 'target unit point' or 'dmg response' point with which to animate itself. the effect is still working its just the actor that not in that case...
