I want some units with custom abilities but them to only use that. Like the queen I want her to throw a spine that the player can easily dodge but will damage a lot if he doesn't move out of the way soon enough. Have it about a yard or two away from the player.
I want a hydralisk to spit some green goo on the ground that slows the player down, can't use creep because I already have creep set up somewhere else, and when he dies he drops the same goo.
Another is Kerrigan releases some scourges that fly low and she doesn't move when they come out. She keeps spawning 2 every 6 seconds. She doesn't use this until she has the player within sight.
What would I need to do to set up something like this? I know the AI wouldn't simply use these attacks if I told it to. Would I need to set up triggers to make the AI use the moves the way I want to?
Make all the abilities autocast, set autocast on by default, then configure the autocast radius/target filters to suit your needs. You could also make the fights completely triggered and periodically order the unit to use their ability on the nearest enemy, but I think that'd be a bit awkward.
