really appreciate your help, but the problem still exist where "the ship doesnt look like it is moving relatively away from the attached background" so it will look like it is not moving
im bad at explaining this, but do u mind just checking out the attached map in the op?
you will see that the background isnt moving, and by attaching an attachment it wudnt fix the visual problem
Hi, the monorail background from mission 2 only moves straight, i need it to move in the direction the Viking is moving, and cant just retexture it since the monorail background is more like a canyon, i need a space background
i have uploaded a video of wat im talking about:
as you can see, the background doesnt move although your ship is moving, causing it to look like your ship is not moving
this is another video where it shows an attached skybox:
as you can see as i have tried to tell u guys before, the skybox will move along with the Viking, making it look like it isnt moving (the stars in the background are not moving)
Hi, i cant find this monorail background which is indoor before canyon, ive looked at mission 1 and mission 2
can you give me the specific name of the model?
also, is it possible to do it without using HOTS assets?
I've never worked with skyboxes before, but.... Is there something stopping you from just creating that skybox, not attached to anything, as a model on the map? So then when your unit moves around, the stars underneath are not moved (so your ship moves, leaving the stars behind and therefore looking like it's moving)?

You could always use a large flat plane model that is just an alpha texture that always is parallel to the ground, texture swap it for a star motif and have several of these planes stacked over each other at a small distance. At -255 you have a model that has the up vector facing your ship and the various star planes attached at +z offsets to the model.

Visual: Texture field but it must be edited in raw data.
With my method you have a model a large negative offset that follows your moving unit. At various intervals between the model and your unit there are flat see through textures with a few opaque stars. As your unit moves the angle between your unit and the model changes sliding the planes over each other giving the illusion of movement.
Just have just model systems created periodically infront of the unit when moving while the old ones self destruct on proximity.
Im trying to make the camera follow your ship as it moves, however the space background would not move making it look like you are not moving at all
see attached map: http://www.2shared.com/file/FdUpuoKK/how_to_make_space_background_m.html
VIDEO:
See how the background stars are not moving away or towards your ship as it moves?
Use a skybox. HOTS has a zeratul named one that moves.

@DrSuperEvil: Go
the background does move, but not relative to your ship, so it will still look like your ship is stationary
Make it into a model, scale it down, attach it to your ship.
@JacktheArcher: Go
when the ship moves, the model moves along with it, so it looks like your ship is not moving relative to the attached skybox
also, other players would see each other's attached skybox
There is a flag that enables model filtering like the ghost nuke splats. The Actor: Filter field.
If it is to be an attachment why not use the HOTS monorail background model and retexture it?

You know the HOTS campaign mission 2? I was thinking like the monorail did.

There are two monorail backgrounds and one is made of flat plates (the indoors one before canyon). Just attach it to your ship with a SOp (Shadow).

yeah, but it still doesn't move the background stars relative to your ship Aka doesn't solve my problem
i have attached a video on youtube, depicting the problem:
does anybody have a solution???
video depicting the problem: the stars in the background will not move relative to the fighter that is moving

can't, i just tried, bcz the skybox is a sphere, not a flat surface

sorry, i dont understand, could you elaborate? thnx
perhaps i can imitate the space background with water instead? is it possible to texture water?
