I want grenades Item(Inventory) to act like toss grenade spell from Tychus/Raynor(I want to see AOE cursor when i click on grenade item instead of simple click-cursor). But the problem is that Item does not have cursor effect field.
Didn't find any solution after looking in trigger editor/actor events. If anyone knows how to achieve the desired effect please help!
Use the data editor for these kinds of things.. find the grenade in the abilities or whatever it is in, then modify the settings and somewhere you should be able to change it. Sorry I cant get more in depth, im on the wrong computer to use my editor.
I did use data. The thing is that spells have "cursor effect" field while items don't. And that's what causing my problem.
So far I think I'll need to redo my ideas to fit what to what map editor can do.(It can do anything.. but I won't be creating custom inventory because normal inventory/items can't handle what I need).
I'll probably have to use dummy items that will grant ability charges for spells(That will be used through command card), but that will make me unable to use spells directly from inventory.
Still looking for possible solutions.
The actor spalt more then likely has a refrence to the ability being used......
Actors tell the game what they are linked to ..... the behaviors/effects/abilities do not directly specify what actors they use.
Try and figure how to get the grenade aoe area thing to change to a different model. This would be the actor you need to create for your item/ability me thinks.

Create a splat actor
make it's model to one of the 3 racial AoE splat models
Set the scale to the radius of your ability
open up events +
"Ability.(ability).cursor
Create"
Modify that event to fit your item.
Also, not sure if a second event is needed to kill the actor, if yes just search for psi storm splat, or any other AoE ability splat and check it's events. Been ages since i used the editor. I think

When the ability is used normally from the command card, it creates a cursor fine, but when the ability is used off an item (target) it does not create the splat zone.

I'm trying to figure this out too, can't get my items that do AOE abilities to show, I have to make this add charges to an the command card ability.
You need an actor splat, look at TossGrenade in abilities and it should have an actor splat.
