hey. i was wondering if any of you could give me some advice on how to port animations between models. like for example, what i'd want to do is give a high-poly model (like the story mode cinematics marines or portrait models) the animations from its in-game low-poly unit's model counterpart.
so far... in 3ds max, i have tried linking the bones from the low poly one to the bones of the high-poly one but it isn't working too good. so any advice you can give me would be great. really wanna cook up some fully functional high detail units.
hi. thanks but could you please explain in a bit more detail what you've meant?? sorry i am more of a modeller than an animator so i only know the very basics of animation :D
yes a bit. i know you use it to add bones to a mesh and edit envelopes etc. though envelopes look really weird on a directly imported model, maybe i'd need to size up the model to correctly apply them. but what does weighting bones mean?

Delete the bones of the high poly model and the low poly mesh and weigh each bone.

You know how to use the skin modifier?

Just that. Tinkering with the envelopes.
