This is a prototype i made up of a concept i've been thinking of. Let me know what you guys think about it.
The concept is you dodge notes that are played/created while the song is playing :).
I'm making this thread because what you see in this video took 4-5 hours just to get it to match up with the song so i would really like to know what people think.
The flame bursts on the round doodads look extremely cool. Might wanna choose a song that doesn't correspond to such repetitive movement patterns at the beginning though.

I didnt code all of the notes for the video for the intro, the guitar that kicks in @0:25
While I really like the idea and the concept, you'd have to think realistically about this. Music, being the main theme of this game, is extremely personal and the sole purpose that games like Audiosurf and the likes have gained popularity is because you can play any music you want. That simply isn't possible in a game like SC2. Either people would have to turn the sound of (that would suck, as it's the game's main theme), or you would have to do a song for each of the popular musical tastes, and after that specific group has played that specific song, then what? I'd be damned if there isn't some way of getting this concept to work though.
If you have the time on your hands, it'd only take about 1 gazillion lifetimes to coordinate all the songs ;)

well, the 40 seconds i did for this song took 4 hours so.... im not gonna do the math, thats why im posting these threads to see what people think. Mods would allow me to have tons of music available to players and this is also another reason im making these threads, to see if people like it and what type of music they would want to play.
TBH, if you mean moderators, it doesn't seem worthy of the effort that would be put into it to me. Once again; my opinion, not the world's :D
Mod Dependancies, a map file can only be 20mb, a mod can be 20mb and you can have as many mods as you want :) well as long as you stay under your account limit of course.
There's an unfortunate amount of negativity here, and I agree that you would have major problems with music, size limits, copyrights. Most likely this could only work as a single-player mod.
But all the road blocks aside, that looked extremely cool. I've done some game-to-music syncing in SC2 and I know that it's very hard, even for just a few seconds of audio. I am completely impressed.

It could work as multiplayer if i can find a way to get the music to pause when a player lags/times out (When the drop window pops up). Copyright wise, i would likely have to use video game music rather than actual music to be on the safe side.
Yeah lol, thats why the first video demo was only like 20 seconds, it took 5 hours just to do that! haha.

Mods as in moderators or moderations?

I started a map just like this some months ago, but abandonned it fairly quick when I release how much time it would take to coordinate the tones. :D
I love the concept, and it can surely turn out to be great. Will this be multiplayer?
Also, for the songs, even though I do not listen to rock, I think that it fits the most to this genre.

have you ever played the indie game groov? that would make a cool map, and probably tons easier to program if you want a movie game.
Just make a sound play everytime your unit attacks and another sound for each unit it killed.
Updated with a new Extended/Improved video. I felt this concept deserved more than a 1 minute video showing 20 seconds of gameplay
one of my fav song, good choice!
but
i dont think moving a marine is fun
rethink this part
Its just a basic concept demo :) It would have multiplayer that would allow for sabotaging of other players etc.

How did you sync up the song?
Please tell me you didn't just use trial and error :>
Windows Media Player, followed by guessing, followed by trial and error :)
butbutbut if you just figure out how long a single beat is you could just use sheet music and it'd be a lot easier :7
I suppose, but that does not allow me to "feel" the music!
lolol, ill look into it :)
You could use open source music, as well as the jukebox music included in the campaign.
