Hi everyone I have an idea for a map called FanCraft.
Introduction:
I love starcraft and all its franchise but I feel starcraft 2 ladder play is kinda well lame, too repetive, and unoriginal.
So I want to bring back that the game requires skill, more available stratagies
I want to create a mod/map where we can do fan balancing and fan units, in the purpose of melee play.
Basic map structure: I read sc2mapster idea and I think its a great idea.
He basically wants there to be less minerals per base, and the ability to have high yield(vespene geyser and minerals). At the same time every time you get farther away from base less available resources or vice versa. Keep the initial base normal 8 mineral patches and 2 vespene geyser but change the natural and 3 and 4th etc.
Also create new units from ideas from fans and have the units be able to built and create new tiers and etc. (kinda a combination of HOTS and Fan units)
Here are my proposed changes to make it more fun, and without blizzards intervention because they clearly don't care, but this could be a unique gameplay.
Change some of the balancing that blizzard did before time, bring old and new units.
All of these changes are combination of ideas I have read in forums and some of my own of course.
I also want a create a set of unique tier 4 units for each race.
Changes to current units
Terran:
Reaper (Current state not useful) instead of factory requirement for gas packs make them require engineering bay, reduce building dmg to 15)
Ghost. Change snipe ability 46 damage (30 vs massive). (this way it can kill infestors 2 shots.
Helion (HOTS BATTLE FORM researchable)
Battlecruiser now come with fusion speed (Defensive matrix researchable)
NEW Terran:
New scouting unit (Runner)
Thor (change to HOTS, so warhound)
Shredder(HOTS variant)
Unique tier 4 unit Odin (An scv builds it, and operates it) (Requires fusion core and armory)
Viper (Same as hots)
Mutalisk morph (<Insert unit here>)
Scoutling a fast chetah looking zerg
Swarm host: New proposal fires locusts underground and pop in the units. (Kinda like the broodlord, but cooler) Initial hit 10 damage (splash). Locusts attack for 5 damage have 20-35 health. (Maybe change to underground broodlings that pop out)
Unique Tier 4 unit Leviathan morphs from overlord, requires greater spire to build leviathan building.
Protoss
Void rays (Can still research flux vanes, but requires also templar council)
Carriers (Base armor 3, (Same interceptors but have a new researchable option in beacon. (Ion feedback, allows them to do a kind of corsair attack splash damage to air units)
Nexus HOTS defensive abilities.
Mothership (warp units, keeps black hole, gains a unique ability costing 150 energy, called Purifier beam (only deals damage to buildings)
NEW Protoss
Oracle (hots)
Twilight Arcon (merging 1 dark templar and 1 high templar) The unit is unstable and will burn itself over time until it dies, has immolation and one spell Twilight rift. (It throws itself kamikaze stile to its enemies, moving extremely fast across units, it slows enemies.while it travels) Has a normal attack and only one per instance.
Conclusion:
More unit combinations will be possible, but with the lower income per base will make tech switching harder or more interesting.
These are my ideas, and I think it really could spare some creative strategies and some really epic games.
Over time we could introduce other fan created (envisioned units).
Also if blizzard releases the art tools, some models will be really cool.
I currently lack the mapping skills as I am a total noob at map making, but I really want to bring that epic feeling back to starcraft.
