Okay, this may come off as a bizarre request but is there anyone out there with an EU timezone that would care to help me out on learning the editor? I get hopelessly boggled when I try anything in the Galaxy Editor and having a guiding hand would help me out significantly. Specifically, I need help with the data editor (who doesn't?) and some triggers. Eventually I might try UIs, but one step at a time, shall we?
I'm still at entry level as regards to the editor. I try to learn via experimentation, but constantly hitting roadblocks kinda makes progress slow. For example, I tried making a Colossus attack in a forward line rather two perpendicular swipes, but I've been getting weird long-lasting beams that damage instantly, and I can't fix it.
Currently I'm trying to make a build system like in CnC, where you 'train' the building in the UI and place it down afterwards, so I've been messing with dialogues to make a seperate UI for the buildings that have been completed, but I hit roadblocks again with the triggers. I do have a more unified idea of what I want to make eventually, but, y'know, baby steps.
Besides that, a learning buddy might also help. Anything is more interesting with a friend, right? Skype is my main method of internet communication, but I also have xfire. Send me a PM if you're interested and I'll provide you with any contact details.
PS: I tried mentoring but said mentor is in US timezone, and with 9hr difference, kinda hard to get help. I PM'd another one but instead of just waiting, I figured I'd post here too.
I got decent triggering skills and a basic knowledge of the data editor, just pm me if you want. Although I'm not quite sure how to solve the CnC problem you described, would have to take a look myself there
you cannot have dialog items with a target, therefore you have to use your command card. just work with charges and dialogs. you hit the build button, then a progress bar will progress, when it's finished you increment the charge and you can build it with a builder unit
If you have already rad everything in the tutorials forum, I advise loading the campaign dependencies and looking at various units to learn the data editor while the campaign maps are a good place to start with for triggers (HOTS even has little explanations in the trigger parts for making your own)
Did you dupe your colossus beams? Sounds like you messed up the persistent periods and the actor events for beam destruction when finished
Train an item that can then build your structure using an Ability item that does like the raven autoturret
I prefer PM as my route of contact.

Thanks for the favourable replies. I shall send out a few PMs. I did check the memtoring thread, and got one positive reply but said person is in a 9hr+ timezone which makes communication difficult. I did PM another one recently, but I thought I'd try my luck here as well.
