The following has been an ongoing pet project of mine since 2005, at the very least. I suggested the concept back in SC2 alpha upon the forums, but the old artwork got a lot of flack and then there were those WCIII trolls that rendered the forums perpetually useless and harassed anyone with an independent concept. After SC2 came out, and the new forums came up, I redesigned the appearance of the Desalisk and tweaked the entire concept...as well as rewrote the story. Either way, I've always wanted to see the unit in game...fully fleshed out and working as depicted within my extremely lengthy rant. Someone decided to take on the endeavor themselves, but...they faded into obscurity. I imagine that fully fabricating this concept into a working unit, and all that entails, would be an extremely large project to take up. However, perhaps someone on here is bored enough, talented enough, and looking for something to fool around with? Even the stats themselves would need worked on...seeing as how I'm horrible with balancing...
Just a thought, and an offer for anyone whom might be willing to partake within a rather lengthy endeavor.
@deleted_4882673: Go I don't feel its Starcraft-ish enough. I looks like it could fit Doom, Resident Evil or some other sci-fi/terror universe, but not Starcraft. The Node is more like a Zerg doodad than a structure, it needs more details, something that screams "hey I'm the Desalisk Node!".
The problem with custom models is that up to now we have few modellers and they usually spend their free time working for huge projects, like the Starcraft Universe and others. Its totally different from asking for custom textures or icons, where anyone with Photoshop or some other software can give it a try. But when we get the tools Blizz showed in Blizzcon you may try it yourself and possibly we will see a lot more "modellers" around.
I might think about going back to drawing again. The things I would patch up are just a few...
For starcraft 2, the creatures are less skinny and fast and deadly and look like they could jump on you. Instead they are more bulky and heavy and cartoony.
I think I might try it out, but I warn you, I'm only 16 and I'm not the greatest artist.

Doom I can see, but Resident Evil? (Though, I greatly prefer the latter franchise over the former...)
That aside, I understand what you mean in regards to its lack of adequately portraying a Zerg feel. I'm fairly adept at fluid designs, but when it comes to proper portrayal of carapace...my skill falters, so I make a more fluid transition between the two in order to compensate for my gross inadequacies. The upper head, spine, limbs, barbs, and spines should all be carapace and appear more...segmented. I believe that would bring it into a much better depiction of a Zerg unit, no? Sadly, via pencil and paper, I can't seem to fabricate such as well as I would like to...comes off looking, extremely lacking due to my difficulties with depth and prospective.
As for the Node, the bottom barbs around the base are meant to jut forth from the ground and extend, periodically, like spidery limbs...extending up towards the top of the structure. I should have added that above, but I believe it's in the actual information...I could be mistaken, it's been a while. Either way, think that would help it shift from simple doodad appearance into a more structure worthy status? I wouldn't expect the limbs to all jut forth at once, but more...haphazardly, giving a more organic feel rather than mechanical.
Anyway, I completely understand what you mean regarding the modelers...were I one, I'd be heavily focused on my own endeavors as well. So, in truth, I wasn't expecting anyone to actually take up the concept...but wanted to present it as a possibility, couldn't hurt right? Still, with the extent of the work required...I do get what you mean, it would be a horribly taxing project.

I tend to look at it from the viewpoint of a concept artist...rather than a modeler. My favorite Zerg unit was always the Hydralisk, which was originally portrayed as a rather sleek and deadly unit...normally far from cartoony in the concept art provided. That might be my problem. :P
Still, I might try to rework the design a bit, not sure I can get a more adequate representation or not.
