Progress Update ( 5-27-30 )

This is my first post in an attempt to create a journal of sorts that I update on a regular basis - hopefully once a week or so.

The map is progressing well so far. My goal is to get a solid understanding how it functions over BNet with 4 players before the service is taken down on Tuesday. I'd really like to make sure all the work I do while BNet has been disabled doesn't have to be rewritten!

After this, more testing will be done when services are brought back up. By then I hope to have the entire first level completed, boss included. I want powerups to be implemented, and I'd like a unique usuable special ability for each player unit. I've worked out some basic ideas for the boss - but I have a lot of details to iron out. I want him to be tough and fought in multiple phases. While the rooms should of course provide entertainment, I want a lot of focus to be drawn to bosses and subbosses.

Hopefully with that 2 week testing period in between BNet being brought back up and retail being released, I can test/optimize the map to the point where I'm happy with releasing the first level to the public a day before retail is launched.

Newly Completed:

  • 3 total player unit types [sabre, war hammer, cutlass]
  • 4 enemy units [goon, heavy, centisnake, hunter]
  • 4 full rooms
  • weapon powerups [levels 1, 2, and 3]
  • player movement improved
  • successfully published

Upcoming Goals:

  • unique specials for each player unit
  • level 4 "overdrive" weapon upgrade implementation
  • random powerup system
