After the rescue of General Edumund Duke by Arcturus Mengsk, some of his men, albeit loyal to Duke, chose to not follow their general into the enemy ranks and stayed behind. After the fall of the Confederacy, these highly trained troops went underground and began undertaking mercenary contracts in order to fuel their fight against the Terran Dominion.

The CNS Duke's Revenge is a former battlecruiser prototype in the works by the Confederacy at its fall, after the Old Families were eliminated on Tarsonis the crew managed to evacuate the ship before it fell into Dominion hands. The CNS Duke's Revenge has undergone massive retrofits to keep with the times and always remains at the forefront of battle against the Dominion. The crew to this day is so disillusioned with their former leader that they refuse to believe he ever worked for Mengsk.
