    posted a message on AHHHHHHhhh

Thats funny, because I just lost work too - the entire map, probably. (A week, maybe more, of work) My file is corrupted, I think - it crashes if I save or test the map, most of the time. Sometimes the terrain just disappears. Sometimes it gets stuck on loading. The error console says I have a corrupted SC2 version, but considering sc2 seems to work fine so I think my map was just corrupted.

It happens to everybody some time or another - I'm sorry to hear it ruined yours as well.

You guys really don't get it do you?

Take Smashcraft, it is really well made, polished and probably balanced (Only played it once).

But it isn't FUN. THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS TO PEOPLE AND 9/10 OF THE PEOPLE ON THESE FORUMS CAN'T SEEM TO UNDERSTAND THAT. Now I'm not saying it isn't fun for anyone at all, obviously some people will enjoy it, but most people including myself, really just don't find it enjoyable.

"Fun" is mostly opinion. A good list should help THE PLAYER, no matter WHO he is, find the kind of maps HE would enjoy and like to play. Currently, it just lets them find maps the most amount of people play. Blizzard hoped it would appease the majority. And it sort of does. However, just because the largest amount of people play those maps doesn't mean that all of the minorities playing the other maps (if they could) wouldn't equal up to more.

I, for one, believe that Blizzard knows the system needs work and will improve it. But I think because of a combination of two things:
    A. Might not be as important as some other things
    B. It would require such a LARGE amount of revisions (or totally reworked)
blizzard has decided to fix it later. (Probably for one of the two expansions, mostly, though the fixing may be spread out among several things.)

EDIT: NOT to imply that I don't think the game list could use immediate, quick, easy fixes!

The post was very bad in a lot of ways, but I can't fault mephs because he had a reason to be upset. However, everyone (even blizzard) knows the system is bad and rants like that don't really help.

posted a message on Dialog Not Showing

@OutsiderXE: Go Thats for the results of my previous dialog that you can see I destroyed at the start. The contents: http://paste.sc2mapster.com/3249/ Nothing dialog related. What creates the dialog is not within the if\then\else. In other words, it shouldn't be part of my problem.

(EDIT: As a test, I put the dialog creation parts above anything else in the trigger. Still doesn't work (besides the debug messages showing. )

(Edit two: I thought since I got rid of my last dialog I could reuse the variable for this one, however when I use a different variable the trigger works! Any ideas on why?) Thanks, TheSkunk

Hey, I've been beating my head against this problem for some time. It may be simple, but sometimes you just need another view on it. The trigger: http://paste.sc2mapster.com/3248/ The Debug messages appear. I do use "Show dialog for all players".

posted a message on Random Unit

This is probably a fairly simple yes-no question: (I suspect no) Is there any way to create a random type of unit (out of all existing units) without assigning them all to variables? It seems like that would be an extremely time-consuming process, especially if campaign units were involved.

    Cool stuff!

Next one should be "Try to Change\Remove the Select All Warpgates Button". :P It seems to be linked to any Warp Train type ability though, might just be hard-coded. Seems like it would be a challenge, at any rate.

posted a message on Start listing things that annoy you about the editor and I'll give to Blizzard

    1. Player Numbers should relate to Lobby Positions.
    2. Cross-realm Map Publishing.
    3. Maps you've created appearing in your B.Net profile.
    4. Less lag problems with arrow keys, ect.
    5. At the VERY least, allow players to search the "Join Games" list, even if you do refuse to change the custom game list\popularity system.

    On an unrelated note:
    1. Increase the party size to the amount of players their can be in a map, the party system is useless if you can't even have a party big enough to play any of your favorite maps, and leaves half your friends out.
    2. You should be able to create\join a 1vs1 map with more then 2 players, the rest should automatically turn to observers. Right now you have to kick all of your friends and re-invite them. Annoying.

All I can think of ATM. Decided I would wait until the editor was better before making any serious maps in it, so I don't use it a whole lot.

    It's a cinematic production.

There isn't a cinematic production in the history of the universe that meets your criteria.

    Some do. :P

Anyways, I didn't mean it should follow that down to the letter, just do a little better of a job at it. It can be improbable, impossible, and unrealistic. But the difference between good action movies and bad action movies is their ability to suspend your disbelief. There is a difference between comically-unrealistic and something plain dumb.

But really, I understand your point. It was really just my own little rant, and as I mentioned It only bugged me a little and I realized that my complaints weren't really applicable to this work.

There were a lot of little things that bugged me. While does everybody think the best way to launch an attack is to trickle a couple of units in at a time? Why do they never act with any intelligence, by taking cover or something? Why are they marching infantry men right to the doorstep of a fortified fortress, and only bombard it afterwards?

However, I have an idea you weren't really trying to make it realistic in that sense, so those comments aren't really applicable. Besides what was already mentioned, I think you should have changed the view briefly at some points, like when the nukes land - they look worse from a side view IMO.

I think it went well with the music, and it was some fun carnage to watch. Good work!

i guess i like that idea, it would be better if we could get the whole front page filled with maps named that lol

That idea I could stand, but your original idea was a bit too immature, no offense.

The very way you phrase it turns me off. "We have given Blizzard more than enough time and feedback to end the worst custom hosting system ever." You don't get the way Blizzard works I guess. They very well have listened, but its been proven that Blizzard is a very slow moving company. I wouldn't be surprised if there were fixes already in the works, considering they said they were going to improve it. Plenty of time? Not really, considering blizzard.

The "Worst Ever" part is arguable too, but I'll let that point rest.

Nevertheless, the part I disliked about your idea was the fact that your "riot" was targeting the players not blizzard. Just because you don't like tug maps (neither do I) doesn't mean the people playing them deserve to have you joining, causing a ruckus, and then leaving. After all, seeing as how the popularity system works, its the only maps they really can play, right? Is it their fault if they enjoy those maps?

Everybody already knows it sucks (even blizzard, to an extent) and the additional complaint of "Fix the system so people stop harassing us" would just get the people ruining the game banned, not the popularity system fixed. (Hypothetically, maybe nothing would happen.) They can't speed up the development system. They have to be working on HotS and other things that need to be fixed as well. You may say "give it higher priority" but honestly, 5 years later you will wish HotS would be at least in internal beta stages.

I for one don't really care that much yet, because I haven't really seen ANY games that are that good (if not because of the lag, than because they are under-developed or imbalanced even if they are "Better" then tug maps.) and I haven't gotten bored of ladder yet. Do what you like, I guess I'm just not really a Rioter or a Petitioner. But Blizzard has stated before they prefer constructive criticism and will get rid of petitions and other such stuff. I don't really think, even if it worked, that this would help at all. And it has been proven they read their own threads, especially if they get to the "Most popular threads" list.

Sorry if the tone comes off offensive or theres any writing flaws, I wrote this pretty quick.

Mozared they had this in war3 it was with the crypt lord i think.... I dunno didn't play too much war3.

It was made by Blizzard, actually. It was called Worm Wars and it had Lava Spawns (Hydralisks) sheep & pigs (Like Zerglings, but pigs gave more) and power-ups almost identical to the ones in this game.

I'll have to try this out, my reaction to the video that it was too fast but I haven't tried it yet. :)

posted a message on [Introduction] One Button Mayhem

I tried this map on B.net. (Vs a Computer)

I guess for now I won't speak of the game play (as I haven't really had a taste of that) but I get the impression its under-developed\still in beta\alpha. If thats not the case I can speak more on that subject; otherwise I reserver my comments to later versions. :P

The one thing that really ruined it was the lag. It was hard to get the unit I wanted because it wouldn't register fast enough when I let go of the key. I don't think its my fault, I don't usually lag. If you could find a way to make the controls more precise I'll try it again against a human.

IMO, the bar should automatically go up as already suggested. I was actually confused at first because I thought it did, so I thought the game was never starting. That leads to the next point: Even though it is simple, you may want to put SOME explanation on the loading screen for people who didn't come via this thread.

This isn't really a necessity, but my final request is that you add a very basic AI that reacts to what you do. It doesn't need to be good, but something to test the map out against when its in the dredges of popularity.

Anyways, good idea for a mini-game, but at the moment thats all it is: A mini-game. Good luck on the development! :)
