@Lonami: Go Well, if the mentioned check-box applied to all pages, thats what Fun Or Not would essentially do.

BTW, if nobody noticed I updated my other post: It could fit in between "category filter" and "Search all Maps" : http://static.sc2mapster.com/content/attachments/13/700/bnet.jpg

@Vexal: It very well might fit as "Show only Maps with Active player in Lobby". That is not the point. Its "Obvious" that my idea was not meant to be copied word-for-word. I'm not creating a blueprint here (and its not my place to do so) - so must you worry about how every sentence is phrased?

"Show only active games" is even more succinct. Such a checkbox is the minimal implementation of the aforementioned functionality. However, it is also the most practical. You see, it allows it to be on all tabs instead of a single tab. I'm sure the value of this is self evident.

It is minimal, yes, but if you included everything players want (which wouldn't necessarily be wise) you have to keep some things minimal or you'll have an over-featured, cluttered list. That was pretty much what I was thinking, though.

@Vexal: Well, obviously "Show only Maps with Active player in Lobby" wouldn't fit well anywhere, you'd have to shorten it to something like "Show only active games" and have a hover-tooltip explaining it. Admittedly I though of this before this patch, but it could easily fit next to "category filter" here: http://static.sc2mapster.com/content/attachments/13/700/bnet.jpg

I always thought a simple quick-fix could be a check-box that reads "Show only Maps with Active player in Lobby"

The "Fun or Not" feature looks interesting. I think it'll be hampered by most maps on b.net being unfinished/unplayable though. Would be nice if once a month or something, Blizzard purged all maps with under x hours played. Of course, people could re-upload them, but this would keep those stagnating and unfinished maps off the "Fun or Not" playlist.

That and I'd enjoy seeing Rodrigo rage once a month.

After testing a map via Fun or Not, you can report a map for being "Broken" - presumably this excludes it from being in the random map pool until updated.

    Quote:

For example if the like/dont like section is going to be all 1st page maps (marine arena/nexus wars etc..

How? The ONLY way to like\don't like a map is finding it through the "send me to a random map" button. You don't get to CHOOSE what map you get. I doubt many people will keep clicking the "Find Random Map" button until they get marine arena and liking only it, and nothing else. People who wanna play marine arena will just join it regularly via popularity list.

Vexal is right here. I think Blizzard still has not seen the real problem. The problem is not that we cannot find maps we want to play. I would like to find maps which I want to play and others want to play at the same time.

So with wc3 I basically had two options: Either I could choose one of the maps which others wanted to play or I would just choose one specific map I wanted and create a game for it which could be seen by other players.

Even with the new sc2 system I still cannot do that. Still nobody can see games I created so I have to search for players by myself.

So I think Blizzard should just replace the most popular list with a recently hosted list where recently created games are shown in reverse order (oldest games first). That way you could play any game you want as you would be on the top of the list after waiting some minutes and you would stay there until enough players have joined your game.

Yep, not perfect yet. But big improvements because everything is on the Join list now:

    1. Bookmarked maps are a separate tab on the Join List

    2. Recently Played maps (By you) is on the Join List

    3. Search for the Join List

This is important because if you create a lobby, you are separated from all of the other players creating lobbies. If everyone uses the Join list, they'll all go into the same lobby and get playing. Its INCREDIBLY easy to join un-popular maps now. Search for it, bookmark it, and then just always join it from the bookmark list.

AND you no longer have to click Show More!! Its separated by pages, and you can skip to whatever page you want.

Also, the "Up and Comming" and "Fun or not fun" lists have potential to be helpful was well.

I don't see how this system helps. While you can much more easily find maps you've heard of, players are still exposed to no more maps they don't know about than previously.

The Fun or Not will not help that much with 1000's of maps. Without categories for each type of map, this entire effort is futile.

    "Advertise your map"

I'm very sick of that. Not everyone is social. Not everyone is arrogant and willing to spam their work everywhere. Not everyone wants to approach mapping with marketing and advertising in mind. Especially because the type of person to make a map is likely not the type of person who gives a shit about those things.

Yes, you can join games of maps you know of. But the problem still exists of finding those maps in the first place.

Obviously it isn't perfect. But you should be glad its a step in the right direction.

Blizzard is always going to do it blizzards way. If you think they'll go to the old system or follow mappers' suggestions to the letter, you'll always be disappointed. I, for one, am glad the change came so soon. I knew it was coming but.. Wow, already?

Indeed, maybe we have different definitions of impolite. I tend to not sugar coat things and some people are offended way too easily. That said, I completely agree that critiques must have a basis and that flames accomplish nothing.

I guess my definition of impolite lies in the eyes of the person you're speaking too: Saying something that offends someone, whether you think it ought have, or whether you meant it that way. Of course, if you didn't know them well enough to know it would offend them, you aren't at fault. If you continue in that fashion or don't apologize, however, you are at fault.

I don't hold other people up to that bar, though. That would be immature and pointless. Just don't be surprised when some people think you're an arrogant prick when you act that way. :P (Edit: Not to mean that I think you are)

Anyways, it doesn't really bother me and its not really any of my business. I just wish their were a few more polite people with positive attitudes about the whole thing who are more outspoken to counterbalance people who have Roderigo's and Meph's sort of attitudes. (As examples - not meant as an insult)

I'm with Laertes though - everyone cool off; there is no point in continuing this thread.

Why is this again? You put it in the public domain. Everyone has the right to judge. It's like saying that you can't comment on art when in a museum.

Being public domain is not a ticket to be impolite.

Really, I can't say I'm choosing sides because I haven't seen anyone act exactly respectable, but Vexals point is valid. Constructive criticism or even or even plain dislike for him and his work is fine, but if you don't have to be a prick about it. If you do, keep it to yourself.

Maybe you didn't think you were acting impolite, or you thought Vexal started it - but again, not choosing sides here.

Then you should post that in the Blizzard forums.

    This.

But I know what you mean. Why do people feel the need to bash other maps and\or map makers? Different maps appeal to different people. Different kinds of maps can, or should be able to, co-exist peacefully.

And the definition of a "good" map is how enjoyable it is to your target audience, and how long you can keep in enjoyable. If that map fits that description to its target audience, who are you to say it's poorly made? Certainly, it may be outwardly lacking in certain areas, but every map\map maker has his strengths and weaknesses.

But your map is popular, you'll have to deal with it. This kind of a post won't help. The best idea is to have as little to do with anyone who isn't willing to have a fair and constructive conversation while maintaining a friendly and\or neutral attitude.

-Can you open your map in the editor ? Any visible bugs or stuff that shouldn't happen? -Can you hit testmap, does it load a little bit? -What were the last changes you made in the editor? Me for example tried to modify a button tooltip with catalog functions and I included a "</n>" in the string. This made the game crash on load, I couldn't test the map anymore. Running the repair tool fixed this magically though.

Well.. I'm sort of hi-jacking reapers thread here. =/ (Unless you were talking to him - sounds like his issue was resolved though.) So I should probably make a separate thread about this.

    1. I can open the map. No visible bugs. 2. When I hit testmap, sometimes it loads all of the way and works fine entirely. Othertimes it gets stuck loading. Othertimes it crashes instantly. 3. Not sure what the last changes were.

BACKUP your work and save it every few minutes :D I've got like 7 backups for some some of my maps lol. But the editor doesn't normally crash for me, unless I leave it alone for a while. Sometimes it locks up for a good 30 seconds but otherwise its fine.

I was about to - I had it set up to do that automatically, but I had forgotten this computer was reformatted so those settings were not changed.

No matter how hard you try to avoid it, there is always a possibly of loosing work.

My map is on another computer, I work on it over the network. I think it got corrupted when it was disconnected, so its possible any backups their would get corrupted as well.

Nevertheless, good advice for those who don't usually make saves and backups.

EDIT: While on the topic, this is the message I get:

e_fileCorrupt "Your StarCraft II installation is corrupt. Would you like to run the Repair tool now?" Archive: -path removed.SC2Map File: enUS.SC2Data\LocalizedData/GameStrings.txt

So.. Any clue on whats corrupted and how to fix it?

I HAVE already run the repair tool.
