    Oof. Haven't been active here in a long, long while. In any case, I thought I'd be active on forums again since I have a bit of leeway in my schedule.

     

    Other than that, have some recent recordings I did that's starcraft related and a work-in-progress song that has no relation to anything at all other than being produced out of whim.

    I honestly do not like the change. Then again, I'm not really an active user here unless someone PMs me and needs me to voice something. And since I am not an active user, my opinion for this sudden change would probably go to deaf ears. And I would assume that the admins here can't do much about it since it seems like all the curse affiliated forums get this upgrade? Could be wrong but eh.

    Some random songs I produced using some freebie loops from Acoustica Mixcraft. Terms and condition says that if I have a legit license for the DAW, I have full permission to use anything in it and do whatever I want with them, even put my name on it. So I did. :P

    Went for a CnC feel. Synths and drums sound cheap. The pad is amazing. The guitar is alright, I suppose.

    Decided to redo my moloch take from AC. I made this one as a before and after thing. The first part is just my normal voice with no edits aside from slicing them close and such. Then a beep. Then a second part where filters are applied to my voice. https://instaud.io/tws

    Really had to get upclose to the mic for it to pick up whispers.

    I'm still playing SCBW even up until now. But I kinda miss the campaigns that it came with. I mean, yeah, SC2's map editor is much more robust and dynamic but I find SCBW a bit more appealing.

    I've been wanting to do this campaign for a long while now but I've been considering just doing it on SCBW for nostalgia's sake and on account of it happening after the fall of Auir. Its about the Lost Tribe. Their wiki article was literally barren with only their decal and its availability in multiplayer. So I grabbed the chance and made a story about them. I've had them sever their cords even before the whole Amon ordeal but still hold major distrust with the DTs.

    It'll be accompanied by a single player mod that would slightly change the gameplay. I was thinking of having pylons be linked together, meaning a pylon can only be built within a pylon field with the Nexus the only thing allowed to be built anywhere but also emitting its own pylon field. They also lack photon cannons for defenses but make do for elite Zealots and dragoons that can be trained in the Nexus.

    Nothing too character-centric. Its about a group of protoss trying to survive harsher lands after leaving their home and their fellows behind.

    But I've digressed for too long. I was wondering if the campaign initiative includes SCBW campaign. If not, that's alright. I would then wonder if you guys would like a campaign from SCBW?

    Not at all! I just a Samson C01U USB Condenser microphone, and a little bit of processing. I'm not even sure if the room I'm recording in is a suitable place as it doesn't have those fancy cusions you'd see in a proper studio. I have a wooden bed with no cushion, concrete walls with cabinets fused against it that contains nothing, basically a college dormitory but not in college. :P

    My workflow for every recording I do is this:

    • Record
    • Wait 10 seconds for background noise sampling
    • Talk, Stop recording
    • Sample that 10 seconds of background noise
    • Noise Reduction
    • Apply filters
    • Equalize
    • Compress
    • Manual Treble Equalization on sibilants
    • Sample audible dithering noise for reduction
    • Noise Reduction
    • Normalize
    • Manual Noise Cleanup
    • Render

    As for what Manual Noise Cleanup exactly means, I basically, I zoom in, alternate between spectral imagery and waveform imagery, and generate silence on every single thing that makes a hissing noise that the two instances of noise reduction might have missed. The first and second noise reduction had taken care of most of the work so its not as time consuming as you'd expect. Just the little bits of hiss here and there that didn't match up with the noise sample.

    It usually takes me 5 minutes to do all those things after recording thanks to shortcut keys.

    Also, if its anything to consider, I record really close to the mic but have its recording volume at around 70 - 80% so even if I scream, it would clip or distort.

    Or if I'm feeling super lazy, I just throw the recording into FL Studio, pop in a limiter and set the limiter as a noise gate. It usually gets rid of all the noise for those quick recordings.
