posted a message on [Solved] Modifications to Chrono Boost ability has no affect in-game

    Hello, all!

First off, Thanks in advance for the help!

I'm still pretty new to the galaxy editor and am having a very specific problem. I can't seem to find answers on google or searching this forum. (Maybe I just stink as searching lol).

Basically, I'm trying to modify the Chrono boost ability to allow targeting invulnerable units. Seems simple enough. However, any modifications I make don't seem to be reflected in-game. Trying to modify the ability itself, connected button, behavior, effects, or validators seem to have next to no affect. (with the exception of a couple of nested "is [building]" validators that I tested).

With that said, obviously changing the target filters to allow invulnerable units has no affect. Simply to test, If I change the name of the button/ability, it still is displayed as the original name within the Nexus' menu.

As a test, I've tried modifying other abilities and it works just fine (such as the Extra Supply ability from the command center).

I've also tried duplicating everything from the button all the way down to deeply-nested validators and effects. This technically works, I'm able to modify attributes, but then I run into a separate issue where the Chrono Boost ability doesn't expire once activated on a building.

As a quick fix, getting duplication to work properly might be a solution, but for personal understanding, I'd like to know why I can't modify the original ability.

    Solved

The issue came down to map dependencies. The map was running off of the Liberty dependency and when I was trying to edit the chrono boost ability it would then be replaced by the LotV version upon the map being loaded.

More specifically it would only replace that ability if it was in that spot on the command card. If I placed the ability on another slot I would end up having both versions of the ability available.
