Create an animation for the model, which animates it's alpha mask, making it invisible. Then in data, using actor events, or through trigger, have the animation play.
Born in the 80's, this is what I grew up with, and enjoyed.
As for having most projects here to be Campaigns, I think there was a time when arcade maps (mostly TD types I guess) dominated mapster. So, maybe it's just the times.
Personally, I love campaigns more than arcade MPs. The story people create, the scenarios they present as challenge. It has more meaning and impact.
THat's the plan. The cradle/nest has a hole, looks like an entrance, where it will pop, like in the tremor movie. You can build the nest somewhere else, like a nydus, and the cerebrate can be moved there via the nest/canal.
The unpowered animation set is also planned. Guts will spew from it's sides, and the cerebrate would deflate and slop down. Then it will inflate again back to form.
I'll make another cerebrate, and a brain bug later. For now, I'm aiming for an Sc2 version of something like a cerebrate.
Also, I don't think the SC2 engine can render gels, or that it doesn't have Sub-surface capabilities.
You can do, something like that of building birth, where it looks transparent, have two objects layered on each other, and have them assigned with animated textures, etc.. but man...

Like how exactly?

Some updates. Nothing here is final, especially textures for the bed.
I'm having some issues with the design, and might put it down for a revisit later.
edit: How do you display creep in the Cutscene editor?
Those cocoons are for it's rebirth effect. I've got an idea of how to do the first cocoon, the one in pic #2, I have no idea yet.

Zeus, and poseidon. Or Thor. He does water and lightning.
You must offer a virgin, 10 bulls, and a barrel of beer.

This mod will be used for the campaign.

I've been looking at Starship trooper lore on the Bugs. Their transport concept is quite interesting. Wouldn't it be nice to have a Bug race in sc2?

And some dangling zerglings, hydras, and ultras, all spinning round, and round, and round... four-eva...!
edit:
and Dinosaurs!

Ofcourse. And spikes!
I'm planning on a separate model for its bed/cradle/nest.

The texture colors are not being captured properly by Screenhunter, nor ScreenToGif..
