posted a message on Arcade map reviews aggregator, wherefore art thou?

It is quite the chore, logging in to all 4 realms and checking my published maps' review pages weekly to collect new bug reports / feedback. Although most of the time there are no new reviews to find on SEA, Korea and Taiwan, so maybe I could do it even less frequently there. But then I'd be missing/ignoring the few reviews that do come. Possibly for months!

Is there a way to automate the collection of arcade map reviews? Possibly without having to launch Starcraft 2, even.

This would be especially useful for people with several or popular maps, who get dozens of new reviews a day. (Which I certainly wish I did but don't.) The SC2 client is just not good enough for handling that (or any) amount of feedback; Lag, inefficient menus, forced animations, slow login/logout process, oh and did I mention the painful, painful menu navigation... Especially if you have multiple maps.

Wish people would just leave a copy of their reviews on the maps' forums as well... But that'd be asking too much of them. Can't thank enough already the 1% of my playerbase who actually care enough to even leave a rating.

Hi, I'm posting first impressions feedback. (Found your map through the "Fun or Not" system.) Replay: attached. Chat log extract: So I get High Templar but no Psi Storm. That's disappointing. "Unlock your core ability at level 30!" Grr Yes, I am basically a pimped out sentry with two less abilities :( Don't forget to cap the swirly things between rounds! Badly coded spells lag the game, tooltips are lacking. This map is meant to be replayed over and over, but who would do it after the first playthrough is so bland. Seeing as how you aren't contributing much to our progress, would you mind leaving the game, Mr. Witch Doctor with full energy and no damage output? You just lag the game for the rest of us. gg I'll vote this YES fun, it has potential but needs work. I realize I only picked one accessory. I'm surprised it allowed me to go ahead and not choose a second. Edit: Found a loading screen typo. There is no "u" in accessouries. Replace it with "accessories". Edit 2: The laggy ability I was referring to is "Seismic roar" from the "Tyrant". My computer survived the final mission's Artifact Nova on Brutal with 60 FPS, it really shouldn't break down like that from a spell knocking back 20 enemies.

Great game, here is a bug report:
Scrolling around when the game is ending (about to end) zooms WAY out. The camera also went below the ground, see attachment.

Additionally, I really hated the camera-shake effects. Please tone them down. (My fps was 199 but it still felt very choppy when the camera started shaking.)

These notes are to whoever wants to continue this awesome map:
Playtime: 1 hour 30 minutes in SC2 time. (1 hour 37 minutes in real time, including the time spent taking notes)
    Level reached: 9
Kills: 88 (not counting Cat Bot kills)
    All quests completed.
    Hero: Engineer
Skills: Cat Bot (3), Aerial Drone (3), Mecha Defense (3).
    Screen resolution: 1024×768
    Graphics: lowest
    Regionlock: EU
    Locale: EN

    Issues:
Quest log should show the whole text instantly, animated write out causes serious! lag on low end PCs. (!FPS drop to 0.1)
Mecha Defense has no reason to be toggleable, since it does not drain energy or give any negative effects.
Mecha Defense is off by default, when respawning.
Mecha Defense needs to be turned off and back on every time it is leveled up. (Tested 2 times, at level 2 and 3.) (EDIT: For the next level's effect to apply.)
Cat Bot should kill (or attack move or teleport to target location) the previous bot if it exists. (Too much trouble keeping track of where I left it, or getting it killed just so I can respawn a full HP version.)
Aerial Drone is more effective in melee range.
Aerial Drone level up tooltip broken. Instead of showing the "once every 3 levels" in red, it shows "Aerial Drones" three times (all previous levels?) and a 4th item which I forgot to write down at the time.
Bashiok's Minion weapon effect try to create multiple Actors per effect, this spams an error message. (The weapon's tooltip is also broken)
Quest question marks should turn yellow once I have all the necessary items. (Note: Chief Raul's question mark just turned yellow, so this system is already half-working) (Note2: Works for all of Sixen's quests too, so now I wish I wrote down which quest(s) it did not work for.)
Tooltips get in the way when working with the inventory, though this is most likely Blizzard's fault. Especially the three lines long explanation on how to work with items. (Who needs that except the first time players? It should be shown as a newbie popup tip, not a tooltip in every item.)
Obelisk of Light heals awkwardly. It should shoot a continuous beam instead of in short bursts. It also takes too long to heal up from 1% HP, so I ended up just letting myself die after level 7, because respawn is faster.
Junk items should be sold automatically (Leftover quest items mostly.)
The quests should use minimap pings. Ping quest locations, and quest NPC locations (when returning from quest). Add "Ping location" button in Quest log.
Buying displays gold loss, but selling doesn't display gold gain.
Healing potions can be used when at full health, wasting the potion.
Bashiok's Minions are way too hard even at level 9.
My Cat Bot got stuck in Bashiok's cave, unable to exit. I couldn't summon the bot anymore. (Would require me to re-enter the cave and kill the bot.)

This is a side effect of StarCraft being available in multiple languages. The map maker's game is english, yours is french. They aren't compatible yet. Poor programming by Blizzard... Hopefully we won't see this at release. How to fix: Tell the map author to localize his maps in your language, he will know what to do. (Yell at him until he gives in and cooperates.) Or you can do it yourself with: SC2 Localizer. p.s.: Ever heard of Google? Click here: http://www.google.com/search?q= StarCraft 2 Param/Value/ bug First result readily tells you: --> localization error

Jesus christ this thread killed my browser and caused loss-of-data. Would it be possible to not show 3575361 videos all in one page please? Not everyone has the latest and best computing equipment for handling that many video objects at once. And some of us actually have to work to earn money for buying new computer parts as we don't get everything for free from our child-spoiling parents. /rage about lost essay in an other tab of my crashed browser. Thanks. p.s.: One solution would be to use [HIDDEN] or [SPOILER] tags around each video. (And shove the vote buttons in there too!) Many other forums and websites have it for exactly for the same reason: too big pictures, lots of videos, etc. (Adding support for such a tag to my forum took me 6 minutes so it isn't hard at all.) (2) Why use digg when making a poll is (much) easier and more user friendly? Just because you have and use digg doesn't mean everyone else does. Some people here are not up for registering a digg account just to cast a vote. And frankly, I agree with them. (3) As soon as the videos are in an acceptable format (viewable on my weak computer) I will of course view them and vote on my favorites.

posted a message on [Misc] Text Styles (75% done)
I compressed the image a bit, should make it easier to use on smal screens. (If fits nicely on my two monitors at 100% zoom level.) Also reduced size from 3.11MB to 0.7MB (minor quality loss). See attachment. ToDo: * The other half of the styles. (A-K done; L-Z missing) * Make it PNG instead of JPG to remove compression artifacts and fix background. (Current background color is random for each pixel between #000000 and #0E1A0C instead of normal black...) I don't think there is a size tag in the beta yet, but Blizzard will definitely add one. Also we only have 2 fonts ingame. SC2 should have support for custom fonts. Somebody with a beta key, please tell Blizzard. Download here:

posted a message on [Data] Mineral Editing Fast map style
My critique for this tutorial: You should add a screenshot! An image is worth a thousand words. :) Step 1 is not needed: Why duplicate something when you can just edit the original? (Many people duplicate units unnecessarily...) Step 2 should utilize search: Instead of telling them to scroll down, just use search or filter or whatever for "Resource". Step 2 has a repeating spelling mistake: "an vespine geyser" → should be → "a vespene geyser". Step 2 is too long. Step 2 is hard to understand... "Left window found under models"? Okay... Step 2 is too long. (Or did I say that already?) Additional spelling mistakes: "Serval" → Several "an Tutorial" → a tutorial "im" → I'm "doesnt" → doesn't "dont" → don't "youre" → you're "changeing" → changing "clik" → click "im" → I'm "someones" → someone is "youll" → you'll "dont" → don't I didn't bother fixing grammar at all and I left out some ambiguous spelling mistakes like "behaviours", "Doubleclick", and "ingame".

I would just edit the MapScript.galaxy file directly. (I did that in Warcraft 3 with war3map.j and it worked exceptionally well for me.) There is nothing better than having full control over your program!
    • I can decide what kind of syntax highlighting I want. (I'd use a modified C-highlighter with all SC2 natives added to it.)
    • A tiny temporary program could do the syntax checking by submitting the code every x seconds to galaxyvalidator. (Until somebody makes a real syntax checker.)
    • Using a real Programmer's Notepad is so much better than typing into a small textbox.
    • etc...
