    Description

    Hello! Following are some character models used in my previous map work. :D

    Build Tools: 3dsMax, Maya, NiNtoxicated01 and Leruster's 3ds plugin, ZBrush, Photoshop, Painter.

    Build Steps:

    1. Edit the model in Max or Maya. These two programs have its advantages in polygon modeling, so I used them simultaneously.
    2. Import into ZBrush for sculpting and painting, then bake the texture maps.
    3. Adjust those maps in Photoshop and Painter.
    4. Create bones system. I used Biped for these cases, because finally it's needed to bake animation for exporting as same as traditional bones system and IK, so I chose Biped to eliminate the time in building bones system.
    5. Rigging and create animations separately.
    6. Bake animations and adjust them. (Remove unused keyframe to reduce the file size.)
    7. Combine all animations into one file.
    8. Create SC2 objects such as materials, attached points, cameras then export the model.

    By the way the steps are just "concepts", there're lots of details during process and I confronted many troubles when editing these characters. Maybe I can share some experience if needed. :D

    These models all contain Diffuse, Normal, Specular and Emissive texture maps. The "polygons" counts of each model are about 3k-4k.

    The animation demo videos still work in progress, I might render the videos through Maya or 3dsMax.
    Perhaps I'll build some robotic or monster models in the future.

    Very nice work!!

    Perhaps you can design some normal bump maps for these mechanical units, they will give the models more details !!

    Hello, I dealt with my model these days, and I couldn't solve the problem by checking the weight per vertex. (every vertex is weighted properly.)

    But if I attach similar geometries together, like body, gloves and shoes together, or the skirt elements together then the problem is solved lol :D

    By the way, I found that most of Bz's models have few geometry objects, so I guess that there might be a limited skin modifier count, if you separate too many geometry objects the export process would fail.

    If it's confirmed (I just guess lol), it will be an important issue when dealing with some complex models.

    I'll check them, well there're lots of vertices lol

    Those splines are just kind of helpers, make users adjust the animations easily. By mentioning about this, I've found some bugs in my model lol

    Here's the 2011 one, the 3ds version in my pc is 2012 and I use "save as" to obtain the old version compatible file. In general this method should work lol.

    By the way, because my 3ds is student version, there might be a window say "not for commercial use" appear when opening the file.

    I can't get the finished file, it's in another computer :/

    Here's an unfinished backup one in my laptop without textures, and I've bake the Ik into keyframes. Unfortunately I met the same problem :(

    Hello! this one is what I've made recently, but I encountered this error. Is there something I should handle to prevent this?

    Work in 3ds max 2012 x64 and m3 exporter 2.1. I just follow the SOP I used to do in 3d modeling, maybe there's something wrong during my process.

    I remember I also encountered this error in my last character and I solved it, but I've forgot the details about what I had done. :(

    Sotis is so popular but I've never played Sotis before, and I'm not familiar with this kind of game. =>

    Yeah the basic architectures are very similar, and that's what I strived for. From the same concept and develope into different forms of games, but it seems not easy. I need more effort and more creative ideas to archive this. :)

    The start up of this map just come from my interest and most of my classmates are DOTA games lover. I don't expect this map will be popular with other players, but if someday this map loved by a certain number of players, translate and release in other servers would be possible. :)

    The Crusade of 324 (324的遠征)

    Description

    The title of this map has a speical story, lol.

    The number "324" is the dormitory room number when I studied in university years ago, and what happened to this room has all presented in the trailer, lol. All the hero's names in the game come from my classmates' nicknames then, and the inspiration of abilities are all from their personalities.

    This map is a kind of Dota-like game, conflicts between heros in two forces. Recently, there're so many Dota-like games and they're popular with lots of players, so my main objective is try to make it played different, make this game seem like a Dota but have a new playing experience.

    My works is not an awesome project but I really learn a lot from SC2Mapster.com. Therefore, I think it's a kind of feedback to share this works and what I've learned in this forum.

    (I admit that I wrote a set of triggers to make the camera work smoothly)

    Features

    1. There're 20 regular heros and 1 secret hero in this version. Each hero has 4 casting abilities and 1 passive ability.
    2. There're over 80 regular and merging items in the game with 5 classes. Those classes are [Potions], [Pharmacy], [Miscellaneous], [Accessories] and [Equipments]. And some of [Accessories] and [Equipments] class items have unique casting ability.
    3. There're some restrictions about item purchases to prevent it become an item game in the late game.
    4. The Reinforcement System. By some requirements players can summon teams of armed forces owned by friendly force to join the battle.
    5. Terrain and doodads placing are not complex but full of surprise.
    6. One world event about the trains passing through the map is available in this version.
    7. Strive to adjust the balance between gorgeous effects and game performance.

    Try to Achieve

    1. Try to design a new game interface. I consdier that the original UI is suitable in this kind of game, but I think making the mouse click region to be larger is a good idea.
    2. A concept about random terrain styles. I'm not sure how to achieve this idea and I'm afraid that this would increase the loading time a lot.
    3. A concept about interactions between heros and terrain or doodads.
    4. AI for computer players. It's surely very difficult to achieve.

    Notes

    1. My account of SC2 is in TW server, so the language of this map is Chinese Traditional. Maybe someday I will translate it into English!
    2. I've released this map in TW server, I named it "Demo Version", but the contents this version has reached my first stage's objective. I think I will hotfix this map often to solve the bug and fix the balance issues.
