I absolutely love the Gears of War series myself, and am eagerly awaiting the third part!

I'm afraid though, that what you are suggesting wouldn't fit well with all the copyright limitations for custom Starcraft 2 maps.

    Hmmmm...

Did they take a new stance since the Warcraft 3 series? I just remember maps through Starcraft and the Warcraft 3 series that were based off of other video games (such as Halo, etc.) or even movies (Lotr, etc.) so I figured this wouldn't be a problem.

I apologize if this is an unacceptable idea/concept, I'm not very familiar with the SC2 copyright rules, etc. and didn't know it would be a problem or violation.

Hey everyone, new user but long time player of the Starcraft series.

Had a new idea for a map but I'm afraid I don't posses the skills necessary to bring it to realization. I came up with the idea while I was reading through the Gears of War book series...

My idea is to bring the Gears of War series to Starcraft 2. I feel like it would translate best through either an RPG/Hero type game or an overall twist to the standard RTS that is Starcraft. I feel like the Gears of War book series along with the Xbox 360 games provide a great foundation and template of story fiction, characters and overall universe cannon that would be a great fit in the SC2 world. I would love to create a totally new and creative map to bring the GoW series to SC2 (maybe some kind of RTS/3rd person shooter hybrid or something else crazy, I got TONS of weird ideas for maps) but I'll start with basic maps that we all know and love such as RPG/Hero maps, etc.

I have plenty of ideas of how this could be done... but first I'll briefly outline the RPG/Hero map/game.

As many of us know, the RPG/Hero maps are a big hit on SC2 and I feel like the Gears of War universe could provide an amazing foundation for a new, exciting and fun RPG/Hero map. The characters throughout the GoW universe are extremely diverse and have very interesting stories that would be fun to tell through SC2.

There are plenty of characters such as Marcus Fenix, Dominic Santiago, Agustus "Cole Train" Cole, Baird, Victor "General" Hoffman, Adam Fenix and many more from the GoW universe that would provide awesome templates for different and diverse heros. You could even throw in different classes of heros (such as CoG, Locust, Stranded, etc.) for either team vs team based maps (such as DOTA or even Enfos) or if you just want to add more diversity to the hero selections. Each character is vastly different in both skill set, history and personality so it would be easy to create a wide selection of heros for the player to choose from that would not only be fun but very functional within the map design. I really feel like SC2 provides a great canvas to represent the GoW universe in, the Terran obviously fit the CoG and human kind while the Zerg would be an amazing representation of the Locust (The Nydus tunnels make for perfect "grub holes").

My general and basic ideas for the RPG/Hero maps for this idea are as follows: -Some type of hero/RPG survival map which has the heros survive against waves of Locust and Lambent enemies (Zerg units would fit great with representing the Locust and Lambent). It would be similar to the zombie survival maps. -PvP hero games that would be similar to DOTA or Enfo's type maps. Again, it would be Locust/Lambent team vs. CoG and if you want to throw in a third team for something more diverse you could have the Stranded represent the third team. -Full fledged RPG which takes the players and their hero's through a story from the GoW universe (I would love to see one of the books map into a map/rpg). -An asymmetrical team vs. team hero map which has the Locust (and or Lambent) team trying to take over and destroy the CoG team. The entire GoW story practically revolves around the CoG trying to survive massive locust attacks so I feel like this would be an awesome map. I envision it being something similar to the old Helms Deep maps found throughout other Blizzard games.

While I feel like the RPG/Hero map is the most obvious choice for bringing the GoW universe to SC2, I feel like making a map that is your standard RTS game with GoW characters/structures/units/etc. would also be a fun map to create.

The idea is pretty straight forward, it would be your basic SC2 game but with a GoW twist. Terran would be CoG, Zerg would be Locust and maybe we could build some other type of third or even fourth race for the Lambent and Stranded. You would obviously want to tweak the damages, abilities, etc. of all the units to properly represent the GoW universe and to also add in that unique balancing that would set it apart from the normal SC2 RTS gameplay.

Lastly, I would like to comment on how the GoW universe could be used for any type of map/game mode. You could do anything and everything with it from RPG's/hero games to TD's or even Tug of War maps. The great diversity would allow you/us to create a wide range of maps and in essence create a "Franchise" of GoW maps (no not literally, just a description of how the maps could be widely diverse and common through all types of maps).

Overall I just feel like the GoW universe is one that would make an excellent starting point for any type of map you would want to create. Personally, I love the GoW universe and would love to see it realized here in SC2 through various maps and game types. I feel like it has a great story that would be fun to tell and great characters that would translate well into the SC2 world. I don't have the map editing skills necessary to make any of these maps but I wanted to get the idea out there to a community that hopefully shares the same passion for gaming and story telling through creative representations as I do.

I would love to help anyone who is interested in any of the ideas I briefly discussed here come to realization and while my map editing skills are extremely limited I feel like I could be of great help with anything and everything else such as research, testing and creative thinking. If anyone is remotely interested in any of this please pm me or email me and I would be more than happy to discuss these ideas further.

Thanks to everyone who bothered to read and happy gaming, -echo1sniper
