    posted a message on I'm Doing This For the Gears of War and Starcraft Fans

    Right so where to start, I'm a college graduate and I love Starcraft. I first played it when I was in the 5th grade and ever since then it's always been my favorite. Mostly I really loved the Map Editor so I always liked being able to create something new and original-for the most part. I'm sure many of you have tried on your own to create your perfect map, it's ambitious, tedious, but fun if the passion is there.

    Now back to my title. I love Gears of War (all of them) and I love Starcraft. I'm tired of always seeing LoL or DOTA or TD custom maps because that's all that seems to be popular online, I remember when some guys made the DBZ Buu saga for Brood War online, needless to say it was inspiring that something so large can be created from imagination. I'm doing all my map editor work off of my MacBook Pro, I know, I should use a PC but Starcraft isn't my life, it's just a big passion. For those who have played Gears of War online I'm sure you've done Horde mode at some point. It's my favorite game mode on GoW.

    I am working on a Gears of War inspired Horde style for a map. I'll tell you all about it. So please only continue reading if you really care and want to see something happen because it's hard doing this all on my own.

    3 days ago mankind was horrified by a threat unlike any they've come across before. With a giant emergence hole in one of the cities downtown quardrants, strange creatures and aliens have begun to emerge and are wrecking havoc on the city. In response the Dominion has begun their military procedures against the Horde, but it may be too little too late. With the city sure to fall victim to the Horde, all what mankind can do now is resist and save as many as they can.

    Jim Raynor, Tychus Findlay, Sarah Kerrigan, Nova, Echo, and Gabriel Tosh have been formed to be dropped deep into proximity of the emersion hole to fend off waves of the Horde to buy as much time for as many civilians and personnel to evacuate safely. The plan? Fight the Horde and kill their leaders.

    That's essentially the over view of the map, quite simple but what makes it special (in my opinion) is the following:

    • The 6 heroes will each be User controlled when the map is finished and available online.
    • The 6 heroes each have their personal abilities along with some edited ones. - Currently working on: Sawd-Off shotgun as an ability with a reload time. - Teammate revive, I'm using the default Raynor and Tychus "Hero Death Prevention" but I'm making it so when the countdown ends instead of reviving automatically they will die and must wait for the next wave to respawn. But the catch is that when they're down for the 60 second countdown ANY of the other heroes can use the "Teammate Revive ability" (custom one I made) to instantly revive them and remove the countdown behavior. There are still bugs that I'm working out with the revive ability, I am working on finding out how to remove the original countdown behavior from the "dead" unit from the caster unit's usage of the revive teammate ability. - I am working on using the Purifier ability for the "Planet Cracker" and turn it into a "Hammer of Dawn" type of weapon that is very expensive and can harm teammates and enemies alike-including the caster if used unwisely. -I will be using the Terran Goliath to be a "Silver Back" unit which will be really slow but incredibly deadly and accurate from range.
    • There are veterancy levels I made already where each hero levels up and becomes just a little bit stronger and a little bit tougher. After all Wave 50 is going to be incredibly difficult without the use of abilities, and micro-managing as well as teammate coordination.
    • Some heroes have the ability to do more damage than others, they are not all even, but where they lack in say-for example-Nova has a single shot sniper rifle and Tychus has a mini-gun-Nova can still be more effective from range and have her sniper ability. So there is a sense of evenness, it all just comes down to the User's ability to fully utilize it.

    • I have individually made 50 enemy wave triggers, (trust me that alone took at least 9 hours). The reason is because I don't want any two waves to feel like the same thing. The enemy never spawns in the same spot twice, well maybe at some point it might but for the most part the enemies spawn in random locations on the battlefield.
    • (MY favorite feature) because Gears of War encourages fighting from cover, there are certain spots on the map where the player can "fight from cover" simply by being in a Specific Region behind a broken wall, sandbags, high barricaded ground and also there are "Sniper Positions" where Nova, Kerrigan, or Echo can be placed and be deadlier with damage and extended range. If any of the units leave the Specified Regions then they are fully vulnerable to the enemy Horde.

    • Currently there are 50 custom placed civilians, colonists, and prisoners, to represent the Ten-Wave set for the 5 sets. I have them under user control to move onto a beacon/region where they die and it triggers the wave number they are the triggering unit for. Ideally I would want it to be set up where from the map initialization "X amount of time passes" and the first wave begins, after that once the last creted unit for "Wave number X" has been killed "X amount of time until the next Wave begins"

    • Killing the enemies on the Horde will grant minerals which can be used to purchase barriers, upgrade them, explosives, or new guns and ammo.
    • I have imported music from Gears of War 2 as well as certain unit sounds (For that I give full credit to http://www.soundboard.com/sb/S1CKSlugger and also to media.io for allowing me to convert it into .ogg files.) So when the Horde attacks we'll hear some Kantus, Grubs, Boomers, Grinders, the Locust! Also the music for the map are all from the Gears of War 2 soundtrack.
    • About 3/4th of the map is fully decorated with doodads, city debris, emergence hole, corpses, signs of battle, etc etc. It's not a giant map, because Horde maps are quite symmetrical so too is this one. The map is essentially an Even Cross-Shape map and it's easy to navigate around in.
    • You'll see the Primal Zerg, Zerg Heroes like Dehaka, Stukov (I really didn't like what Blizzard did with Stukov in the main story but oh well), and the many Zerg agents used/faced by Kerrigan in the campaign.

    • I eventually want to make it so there are weapons like a Boom-Shot Torque-Bow Grinder Shotgun A chainsaw melee attack that can be used on light biological units Flamethrower Sniper One-Shot and of course the Mortar
    • Eventually it would be ideal to have slot bags and items being the "weapons" and only have a limit of 4 things to carry at a time the four being two primary weapons, a pistol, and grenade(s)
    • Because in Gears of War 3 Horde mode I'm making so obstacles and defensive destructible structures can be placed and upgraded. such as an explosive barrel, barbed wire, auto turrets, manually (and stronger) machine gun turrets, mines, as well as health dispensers. Again ALL OF THEM CAN BE DESTROYED BY THE HORDE
    • And lastly did I mention the chainsaw?! it'll be difficult because I don't have the software for animations but I've got the audio and the data know how to make it happen.

    If you've kept reading this long then you might as well lend a helping hand, I need help, I want help, I can't do this all alone, I have the plan but not the hours nor the knowledge to pull it off on my own. It's the Starcraft 2 Map I've always wanted to see but no one's ever made it. I know if a project of this scope can be completed who knows, maybe we'll see some Spartans fighting the Covenants with load-outs or we'll see Commander Shepard fighting the Collectors. The sky is the limit!
