posted a message on WC3 to SC2 Model Conversion

I'm very sorry if my tutorial was lacking some instruction (yes I am ShinraCorp), well instead of Open Script it's Run Script. @Mangled The Compressonator doesn't open .BLPs I forgot :P You need to get Warcraft III Viewer (download it from Hive Workshop) and convert the .BLP to .TGA or .BMP from there, THEN you can convert it to .DDS

@Ribley As for Step 1... you need to go to my site (Starcraft Unlimited) or here and download the MDX Importer/Exporter scripts and the M3 Importer/Exporter, once you finished you need to place these files in C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3DS MAX 2010\scripts.

Step 3 is once you open up MAXScript (the hammer icon on the far right side of 3DS MAX) and do Run Script for both M3 and MDX Importer/Exporter you can then import your MDX into 3DS MAX, then push the M button on your keyboard to bring up the Material Menu Warcraft III uses a special kind of Material, but you need to change it to Starcraft 2 Material so click on Standard, select Starcraft 2, go to the Layers fill in Normal, Diffuse and Spectate with your .DDS, as far as I can tell normal is well your normal textures, diffuse is the lighting of your textures and spectate I have no idea... I extracted every M3 and .DDS from Starcraft II and that's what they look like apparently.

You're somewhat right but you forgot 1 detail.... you have to convert the .BLP into a .DDS file since that's the new textures they use for SC2.

I successfully imported and export Tichondrius so I can give you some steps I did for it to work.

    1. Place it in the right folders (ya stupid step but I have to scratch my head why it wouldn't work lol.)

    2. Open it up and go to MAXscript then run all of the scripts.

    3. After you import the .MDX into it you need to open the Material Manager by pushing the M button on your keyboard.

    4. If you don't have the .DDS file for it yet then go convert the .BLP into a .BMP (with Warcraft III Viewer) and then get the Compressonator to save it as a .DDS file.

    5. Return to 3DS MAX and now in the Material Manager you need to click on the button that says Standard, a menu will pop up you need to select Starcraft 2.

    6. Still inside the Material Manager you need to go and open the Maps section, there are 3 maps that need to be added, Normal, Diffuse and Speculate (something around those lines) just apply the .DDS on to those 3 maps.

    7. Delete the Hero Glow if your model has one cause EVERYTHING must be SC2 mesh, hero glow bugs it like nuts.

    8. Press Ctrl+A to select all now in the Material Manager click and drag the orb thing... (yes the orb thing with the textures wrapped around it.) and apply it to the model (it gives you 2 choices make sure it's Assign to Selection.

    9. This is where the majority screws it up, you need to OVERWRITE a model in Starcraft 2 (as far as I know) I replaced the Marine for Tichondrius but you can replace it with anything else if you know it's filepath. Let's say you replace Marine anyway... go to your Desktop make a new folder called Assets then inside of it create 2 folders Textures and Models. The .DDS MUST BE IN THE TEXTURES FOLDER! In the Models folder you need to create a new one called Units and inside of that one another one called Terran, then another one called Marines. That is where your model will be stored.

    10. Now you're ready to export it, click on export, name your model Marine.m3 (yes it has to be Marine.m3 if you want to overwrite it).

    11. Go to your Galaxy Editor then the Import and import both the Marine.m3 and the .DDS file. It's normal if you see your model is a brownish or blackish figure instead of a textured one in the previewer. Place a marine on the map, run the map and it should work.

Yes that is a whole lot of steps just to get a stinken MDX into a M3...

posted a message on [Model] Exporting from 3dsmax and importing into Galaxy

So let me get the straight I need to replace a model in Starcraft 2 in order for the model to work? Or I can just import it with another name... cause I wanted to try Ticondrius but if I have to replace a model then wow...

I imported him in the Map Editor but the result is that he's all black and some parts brown.... yet I placed the .DSS file (there was only 1 .BLP) in Assets/Textures folder.

Also applied the material to all the selection with the 3 layers.
