posted a message on [commissioned project?] Nomad-style play

Years ago I played the RTS games "Age of Empires" and "Age of Kings" and enjoyed the mode called Nomad that involved more map exploration, both before building a first command center type building and later throughout the match.

StarCraft2 1v1 games are obviously less compatible than AoE/AoK for matches in which players start with resources but without a command center. But I can ponder...

Has anyone made such a map or mod?

The best I can myself imagine would be big map with a large number of possible starting locations, and the rule that new buildings must be constructed at least 20-N tiles from any of your existing buildings, where N is the number of your existing buildings. So your first gas-collector would be at your natural, and your first troop-trainer like a third point on a triangle. The bigger map with many possible enemy locations would prevent Zerg 16-drone-rushes from dominating.

I am writing mainly to check what ideas are already out there, or prompt brainstorming if anyone else thinks this might be fun. But I could commission the project if that is needed to make it a reality, once a more definite plan is developed. A coder deserves his wages.

Sorry for the lack of proper [?]. New here. Need help.

I have been playing SC2 a few months. My eight-year-old son enjoys the game. I already have family in the US and Thailand, and friends around the US, for people I know to play with.

The game has many ways to adjust the difficulty, but for the sake of being family-friendly needs one more. Even if I set the "unit health % handicap" to 50% I will still out-Macro my son so badly that he cannot win.

A more exciting game for both of us would be an Extension Mod providing a lobby option for "pay % of income as tribute to player X". In the lobby I could set which player to pay tribute to, and at what percentage.

Someone at a SC2 forums pointed me here. I can handle object-oriented programming, but should probably just commission someone to make the Extension Mod since I have a lot on my to-do list.

The game is a great tool for teaching a wiggly kid how to pay attention to more than one thing at a time. Can you help make SC2 more fun for my family? If so, what is a fair cost of the amount of time and work required for this project?
