posted a message on Map size, tileset, and initial texture - changeable?

Newbie question - when I create a map I have to choose my tileset (Agria, etc), initial texture, and size. Can I alter them later, or will I have to start over if I change my mind?

posted a message on Implementing different roles for each team

Thanks for the pointers guys! Much appreciate it.

Glorn - I agree, I should be fleshing out the details ASAP. As I am new to the SC2 editor I wasn't sure how feasible it was to make this sort of game, or what the genre was called. Now that I see it can be done quite simply via different starting units for different teams and conditional triggers, I should be able to start properly planning the game without worrying that I have an unfeasible concept.

One more Q, if you guys don't mind - AFAIK there is no way to set 'Team' triggers, but only 'Player', with teams set via Alliances, right? So if my no. of players is 2-10, I should give Player#1-5 a Builder unit and Player#6-10 a Destroyer unit, then set their alliances via a map initializtion trigger?

Joey - What I mean is a map style that is similar to Tree Tag. In that game, the two teams are divided into Ents and Infernals. They have different spells, abilities, and goals. The Ents mostly build and the Infernals mostly have destruction spells. The goal of Ents is to survive for 25 minutes, while the Infernals' goal is to kill all Ents. https://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/2ctjrz/so_we_are_recreators_of_wc3s_treetag/

Masked - Haha! I mean, I haven't really fleshed out my idea properly yet, so I can't provide details if I wanted to. I was looking for a general idea of which tutorials etc I should follow in order to implement a map like this.

Masked - Thanks, I will look into that later. I was hoping to make use of the new assets that Blizzard put into the SC2 editor if at all possible though.

Alevice - You mean the files (that I DLed through the Battlenet app) are downloaded into the wrong directory on my HDD? Or I accessed the WC3 mod dependency wrongly via the editor?

posted a message on Implementing different roles for each team

I'm trying to create a map where Team A and Team B will each have different 'roles' to play. The closest example I can think of is the old Tree Tag in WC3, or Vampirism.

How would I go about implementing this? I get that I will have to figure out the details on my own, but I was hoping to be pointed in a general direction. For instance, would just setting Player conditions in all of my triggers work, or would that be too hack-ish?

    Thanks!

posted a message on Issue with abilities from WC3 data mod

    Hi,

Apologies ahead of time if this is a silly Q - it's my first real map and I'm tinkering with the WC3 data mod. I imported it as instructed, and am trying to give Antonidas some new abilities. However all the WC3 abilities are suffixed with (Unnamed) and don't seem to work. I've tried Blizzard and Water Elemental, and nothing happens when I test the game and click on the ability in the command card. The SC2 abilities work fine when I tested them.

Also, the WC3 abilities have some pretty terrible names, like AHweArchMageWaterElemental (Unnamed) and no description. Is there anywhere that I can access documentation on what the specific abilities do?

    Thanks!
